Anxiety/Confusion Help for Older Dog

My Dalmation Dee is going to be turning 13 this year. She is in great shape, her vet says she could pass for a 7 year old. She was diagnosed 4 years ago with early kidney disease, and has been on a special diet and has her blood work monitored--her kidneys are back to normal on the diet. She is getting a little cataract formation, but what I have been noticing recently is that she is slipping a little mentally.

She is a very lovey Dalmation, I worked very hard with her as a puppy to socialize her and she does love people. But if she is sleeping and someone comes to the door and startles her awake, she is very disoriented and is starting to get defensive (tons of barking, high tail).

Is there anything I can give her supplement-wise that would help her relax/mellow out?

You might want to talk to a holistic vet about using something with Valerian Root in it. I use it for my dog, Miko, who's 12 and is very upset when startled.
