Frontline

Has anyone had a dog that exhibited signs of upset, stomach, throwing up, loose stools, etc. after having Frontline applied for ticks? This is the first time I've used it on my wire fox terrier and he hasn't been feeling well since.

Yes, mine has. Every time I applied it he would be "off" for a few days. Not very hungry as if he had an upset stomach. I mentioned it to the Vet and she said it shouldn't be doing that. Well, it did, every time. I recently switched to Advantix and it doesn't bother him at all. I love it, it repells mosquitos, ticks and fleas as well as kills the attached ones. And I find the applicator easier to apply.

Fipronil, the active ingredient in all FRONTLINE Brand Products, is stored under your pet's skin, in the oil glands, so FRONTLINE continuously reapplies to the skin and hair through the hair follicles making it waterproof. You could do a Google search for Fipronil and see if it has any side effects.

I had negative reaction with my Aussie Terrier when I thought I was doing the right thing by applying. I personally do not use any of those products at this time.

All medications, even preventatives, have a risk of side effects and while most have a very high safety rating there are always a few animals that will have an extra strong reaction. Heck even a bottle of tums has a side effect and overdose symptoms list. Your dog may be one of those extra sensitive individuals and require a different flea/tick medicine.

I use Frontline on both my dogs, a Beagle and a Rottweiler and fortunately have never experienced any side effects. Is your dog feeling better now?
