Natural remedies can be good, but just because they are natural doesn't necessarily mean they are ok to give to our pets without seeking vet advise first.
You can easily overdose on these medications too. A lot of vitamins interact with each other, count on each other within the body to work. A circle if you will.

I am not familiar with the last ingredient Natural Marine Lipid, it does not say exactly what it is, could be an extract of vitamin A or anything which if given in large does can be fatal.
My advise, ring the vet, it costs little to make sure, before you administer.

I feed Koni Nutro Max and his coat has been shiny ever since. I suggest, if you are not already doing it, to feed your dog food that doesn't have by-products.

I have my dobes on Nutro Max, and they are very shiny. Everyone always asks how do I get them so shiny. Answer is nothing special. The food and i bath in an Oatmeal shampoo about once a month.

dobermom. How come I read that it's recommended you bath your dog once a year...?? Is this true? I read this in a couple of books.

vnguyen...I think I have heard that too. It makes no sense! Mine get dirty and start to stink after about a month. I think the "pros" would say I over bath, but it seems to be working for me.
With your girl being red, they are known to sometimes have skin problems. My red boy is fine, I would just say keep a close eye on her coat and skin.

I agree with Dobermom, my boys get a bath when they are either so dirty that their white spots look tan, or when they don't smell good anymore.. Usually about once a month, sometimes twice a month for Dakota.
My boys get a fish oil gel pill each day, with their food (two daily for Dakota, one daily for Ripley) I pop them and squeeze the oil onto their food. It smells horrible but they love it. And their coats, particularly Dakota's, are amazingly soft, shiny and healthy.

I also agree that if her coat isn't very shiny, that you should take a look at her diet. A fish oil pill is nice as a supplement, but if she is getting a food that is made up mainly of fillers, her coat will not be as healthy as it could be.
As for the by-products, there is nothing entirely WRONG with by-products, I just don't care to pay for protein sources that are not muscle meats. (By-products contain less digestable protein)

The problem with taking fish oil pills in humans is that the omega acids can block other fatty acids from being absorbed. I do not know that that is true in dogs as well, but it would only make sense that it is.

This has worked for Dax and I have received lots of praise from people on the shine and condition of her coat.

When I make chicken soap - I boil a whole chicken (no onions) then when I separate the nice meat from the skin and fat - Dax & Ariel get it. It's not enough to be a problem weight wise and they like it as a treat. Make sure no bones. It is a great way to add high quality fat once in a while.

As for bathing, I have read that once a year too. I think a better number is 4 - 6 times a year depending on the stinkiness of the dog.
