Question

My dog hasn't been eating...He didn't eat in about 3 days...He will nibble here and there....Sometimes I mix some wet & dry food together & he will eat that...He won't even eat them mixed or not mixed...I have tried switching brands and nothing excites him..I also read in a previous post to mix some warm water but he just turned his nose up at it..So I don't know what to do...It seems like he would just rather beg off of humans or wait for someone to drop something....

crystal, im going through exactly the same problem! its so frustrating! he will eat when its given to him as a treat or if its dropped on the floor but when its eating time, he'll just sniff then go. just the other day, instead of just handfeeding him since i started doing that to make him eat a bit, i just placed the bowl down on the floor and ignored him! after 5 minutes, he approached the bowl and ate a bit then would leave again for 5 minutes then would go back after another 5 minutes. i left the bowl out for a max of 15minutes maybe. he didnt finish his whole meal but atleast ate more than half, i think i also would mix wet and dry food as well as shifted to another dog food....i even tried mixing cottage cheese to it (it kinda worked though). so, i guess you've just got to be creative and leave the bowl for him to come back to. its so frustrating but we just have to be patient with these pups goodluck!

I know how youguys feel I WAS going through that problam after i went on the rice and egg diet while she had runny stool. The best thing to do is to just leave the dry food that she usually eats out.. it might even take 5 days (or even six)so you have to be patient.. Trust me if you dog is desperatly hungry it will turn to its food.

I tried leaving it out for days but then he would start vomiting because his stomach was empty..I moved his bowl into the living room and he has been eating fine since...It seems like he just wants to be where we are...I know I am spoiling him but if thats what it takes to make him eat I will do it..

just an update on my pup who wasnt eating much: i had my vet take a blood test on him to see if there was any internal problem since he also started to vomit coz his stomach was so empty. Turns out, he had high liver enzymes and lack of appetite and vomiting were just a few of the signs. He's now been into a prescriptive L/D diet for two weeks already and will be tested this tues again to see if his liver has improved. Dont mean to scare you crystal, but you might want to have him checked. I am such a paranoid mother when it comes to my pups....but I guess they love me for it Keep us posted on your pup k?

Ruth,
That sounds like a good idea...I will keep an eye on him and see how he does...I may have to have him checked out...A trip to the vet is sooo stressful for both him and I...He freaks out!!!! We have to tie his mouth shut b/c he takes his muzzle off and everything...Its terrible!!

Try mixing a little of some canned food into his kibble adn see how he reacts. It's not good to have too much dry food, anyway, because it can cause bloat, which can flip their stomach.

Usually in the morning I do mix a little bit of canned food in with his dry and he loves it...Later on in the day I will give him some dry food without the canned and he just turns his nose up at it!!

Cocoa's back to dry food again, his liver enzymes have gone down But he's still very picky with his food so I tried adding boiled vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, carrots and squash....his appetite has totally improved! Sometimes you've just got to try to introduce new stuff. The canned food is also a great idea but surprisingly, he likes his vegees more. You can give it a try, its healthy too
