Seizures. Dobermom, doglady, help??

Well, Charlie has had three seizures in the past month. He's been to the vet and had bloodwork done, but I haven't seen anything on that yet. Once I go and see my old vet, I might ask her a little more. My parents aren't very helpful in explaining it. They just took him to the vet when they saw it happening. So, now I come back to visit them and am trying to do something useful while here. Poor Chuck.

Can you guys please, please give me some info on it. Based on personal experience, what can we do?

Well, here we have ruled out epilepsy.

After the change in Cliffords food from Nutro to Eagle Pack, we only on a VERY rare occasion see a seizure out of Clifford.
I feel we have the issue under control

I do know most vets will try a dog on pheno for seizures, it was no help to Clifford since we no longer think they are tied ti epilepsy.

I am going through this right now with my Beagle Buddy. He was just put on Phenobarbitol. Not sure why he has seizures, but your vet may be able to tell you more once the blood work comes back.

Buddy's bloodwork came back normal, therefore, it is assumed his seizures were epileptic.

When it comes to seizures there can be many cause....chemical imbalance, tumor on the brain, environmental, etc. They took the first step by having the bloodwork done.

Has Charlie ever had seizures before? How old is he? Most of the time they start them out on Pheno to get a handle on them. Then they do follow-up blood work to adjust to dosage.

The main thing during a seizure is to keep calm. Which is the hardest. Make sure they are not going to hurt themseleves and give them support. I use to sit by Roo during his and talk to him. After a seizure they pace for anywhere between 10 mins to a couple hours. They will be unbalanced and tople into things. Just keep and eye on him. Don't let them outside unattended. After a seizure they become very dis-orientated and I would hate to hear that he gotten out and lost.

Charlie is about 3-4. He never had a seizure that we know of until this past month. I don't know much about it since he is my parents dog. I am trying to learn more when I go to the vet. I'll keep everyone updated. Thanks for the info, though.

Our dog was put on Potassium Bromide for Epilepsy last week - He is a little stoned right afterward but he is mostly normal now. He's 1 year and about 3 months.

He had one seizure two weeks ago then a week later he had four in one evening ranging from grand mal to petit mal seizures.

He is having his bloodwork done in two weeks to measure the levels of the KBr in his blood, but he has been a lot better since and we havent seen hide nor hair of the seizures since though we are keeping an eye out.

My boyfriends dog on the other hand when she was seven had 6 seizures in a month - they took her to the vet and they said moniter her. She hasnt had a seizure since...so sometimes the cause may go away.

But it is very hard to watch and I know you want to do something...I dont think I have ever been as upset as I was after Jay had his first one.

I hope your pup gets better.

Hi RC, Sorry to hear your parents are having problems with their furkid. From what I learned at the Neuro. people use "seizures" to cover all sorts of issues. After viewing the video tape of one of Bosley's episodes the neuro ruled out ep.

Can your parents dog respond to them while having one of his issues or is he unresponsive? What do his episodes look like? Can your parents afford an MRI? Is there a teaching Vet University near you, the MRI is much cheaper at one of these facilities.

Just for my curiosity, when was the last time your parents dog had a vaccination and for what?
