Hi everyone! I have been looking around here a little and have a question based on puppy "drive". More Like the, "Prey. Fight, Defence drives" we hear sometimes about.
Is there a simple home-test we can do to get an idea of what we might get after our ongoing training has smoothed out? My pup is two munths old FWIW Thanks,! |

Awwww! 2 month old german sheperd? How cute, they look like little bears at that age. Mine is 9 months old and growing fast! He is so well behaved. Our friend bought his brother and has spent a fortune on his dog taking him to puppy classes and I really think that there is no need! We have trained Skibba on our own and he does more and is more obedient than his brother. I think if your dog needs classes you'll know. We just knew that Skibba would be fine... and he is!

Look at his parents for some of what he will be like. |

It is good for finding the flaws in your training methods, controlled socialization at a young age(very important), focus (you want to know that your dog will listento you in any situation, even if he's playing with another pup).... they're things you jsut don't want to deal with down the road. And if you ever wanted to go into a dog sport, or you wanted to correct some things, it's harder on an adult dog who's never been in a room full of dogs before. |

Thanks for the info everyone! We are going to keep him home trained I think, at least untill he is comfortable with obedience indoors and in the yard. We have a neighbor with a Black Lab pup that's the same age as our pup, and our friends have three dogs we can socialize him with. He seems to get along great with cats, probably because they were declawed and older, etc. I am so happy this dog is animal friendly too.
Anyways, I am happy he (Gibson) doesn't get car sick and he's been around about 50 different people from our last two holiday parties ths past week. Besides the two times he got tripped over, he was very happy to run around and greet everybody. Hopefully he will grow up to be a more useful & happier companion than we can even imagine him being.
