Lightbulb Feeding a 9 month old German Shepherd

we've got a gorgeous puppy german shepherd who's 9 months old.
he seems very happy and healthly, but our friends bought his brother at the same time we bought skibba (our dog) and they feed him almost twice the amount we feed skibba.

how much should we be feeding him?

he currently has 3 meals a day:

breakfast - bowl of pedigree puppy dried food
lunch - bowl of pedigree puppy dried food
dinner(tea) - bowl of pedigree meat with puppy dried food as a mixer

is this ok? help! thanks!
8-)

Cool

We would fed our Dobe puppy twice a day and he would get as much as he wanted until he was almost a year. I would have left the food down for him but one of my cats would eat it and she doesn't need the extra food , if you get my drift on that . LOL!

Our pup was very active and I never worried about him putting on the pounds. A good choice of food for you pup is a large breed formula because of how fast a Shepard grows. There are lots of these in the pet supply place like Pet Smart etc.

I think you are doing just fine with your pup.

Thats cool then! When I said about the Pedigree Puppy mix we do buy the mix for larger dogs like labs and sheperds so thats fine there. He doesnt look under weight or anything I think because our friend has his brother we have been a bit worried.

Do you think we should advise our friends that they could be over feeding thier dog? He gets through one of the larger SACKS of iams a week! They feed him twice a day and just feed him the mix and not meat.

Al large breed formula is imperative to the proper growth and nutrition of the puppy. "Bowl" sizes vary and I suggest purchasing a cheap, plactic measuring cup to better gauge the amount he is actually eating. The bag will give guidelines as to the proper amount, which you can increase or decrease based on the amount of exercise he gets as well as additional "supplements" (treats) he gets throughout the day.

If/when you do change the food, be sure to do it gradually by adding the new food to the old a little at a time over ht ecourse of a week or so. Keeps them from gettting and upset tummy. Good Luck and welcome to the forums!!

thanks v much! 8-)

yeah that sounds pretty much spot on to what we're doing at the moment, mainly wandered if the bag instructions are any good because of the speed he's growing and my friends worried me about how much they feed theirs.

we don't tend to have to change the food as he pretty much munches the whole lot in a 1er each time. is this a bad thing?

cheers for ya help!
