K9Advantix vs. Frontline Plus?
Does anyone have an informed opinion on what is the better product between K9Advantix and Frontline Plus?

Advantix repels and kills.. and included mosquitoes and flying insects in their spectrum.
But, Frontline has a better reputation and most of our veterinarians feel more comfortable suggesting it. |

When you say better reputation - do you know why? Is there something not good about Advantix? Safety issues? Or, maybe you mean better reputation for killing fleas?

We go with frontline. It does not protect against mosquitos but if your dog is on heart worm medication monthly to begin with there is no need for it. Plus ecen though it is not 100% ....my dogs all have shots for Lymes. I can only tell you of my experience Deb. When I took Vanilla in for her check up I asked where the Advantix was because that's what all three dogs were on to begin with. The vet told me that one of his dogs came home with a tick on him. He poured a whole dispenser of Advantix into a petrie dish and put the tick in there. After two days sounded only in advantix in the petrie dish that tick was still alive....not even close to looking lethargic. That's when the vet switched to front line and that is now the only thing he sells.

I've never been a fan of topical treatments. It smells bad, it gets caught in my dog's coat and turns all sticky, and when he rolls on things, it seems to get on stuff. At least it smells like it's on my stuff.
Sentinel protects against internal and external parasites. It is essentially Program and Interceptor put together- saves pill-popping. And since Kirby isn't exposed to fleas on a regular basis, a substance that interupts the breeding cycle is more that enough. Sentinel is not an insecticide. |
