Question Claw removal BUT NOT DEW CLAW

Has anyone ever had a claw removed from their pooch that wasnt a dew claw but a claw that was on the foot??

I am just wondering what to expect over the next little while, as far as walking, bleeding, pressure.....you get the picture.

If anyone has any information you could share with me I would be very greatful

My old cat had to have two digits removed because of a dog attack. I noticed he was a little wobbly sometimes. Especially for a cat he'd fall when he tried to use those claws to hang on. Other than that he was normal. It didn't take a long time for it to heal and I don't remember it bleeding at all afterward. I think it took about a week for the area to heal up. Then again this is a cat and it was a small area...

Lexus had her "break pads" removed on both front paws. I forget what they're actually called...but the one a few inches higher up in the back of the paw. It was pretty bad--but Lexus IS a big baby when it comes to pain....we had to keep both paws wrapped...and stitched...but the stitches kept popping...and she kept messing with them...so we had to e-coller her....for 4 weeks. She refused to walk for the first week...and I had to construct a way to hold her up to take her potty (shes 60 lbs) it was NO fun!

Dusty had a toe removed in December. After her recover, she did fine with the three toes on her foot.
The surgery was painful I'm sure. Because her foot was wrapped there was very little bleeding at the time the bandages were removed the first time, and very, very little the second time they were for good. She never had any problem with walking or putting pressure on her foot. The main thing to remember is the bandage MUST be kept dry at all times. I'm sure your vet will go over all the instructions.
Beat of luck.

I have seen a dog at work have a digit amp. It was a whippet racing dog, and he was able to still go back to racing just fine.

Dakota had her claw removed a few months ago. It took a while, but the claw grew back and is once again needing cutting regularly.

As far as the healing process, the biggest thing for us was keeping her dry and clean. You've got to let air get to it or it won't heal, but you have to keep it dry. We kept her inside most of the time and put doggie boots on her when she went outside. No major activity until it was scabbed over and even then we were careful.

Once it was healed, she just got back to normal and all was well in the world. It grew back ridiculously quickly and I am once again cutting it back every week.

It does sound funny but RC is right...they do make doggie boots. We bought a pair for Oso only because he was dragging in so much muck uner his huge paws. You can probably find the doggie boots on line. Buy at leat TWO pairs this way you can always throw one in the washer and the dryer.

We only needed one pair since it was only one foot. We just kept switching between the four that come in one package. Not really a pair if there are four is it? What would you call that?
