Feathering?

Hubby says I'm stupid for asking this question, but here goes. The feathering (I think that's what it's called) on the back of Poppy's legs seems a bit untidy and fluffy to me. Is this something that can/should be trimmed, or is it to be left natural??? and if I do trim, how much should I take off?

I'd say you can trim it if you'd like. It won't hurt anything as long as you don't shave it, but that'd probably look worse anyways.
Bailey won't get another haircut until spring, but the main reason that she gets trimmed is her whole body gets feathers and they all stick straight away from her body.

Ok, that was a bad joke. Kirby's made of feathers.

If you sent to the groomers, they would probably trim them off, but it doesnn't really matter. Doesn't affect the dog.... Whatever you think looks better.

Watch how you trim them - sometimes they can end up looking straight and awkward.

The other alternative is to brush them after you have sprayed them with a spray conditioner. I use Show Sheen (for horses) on my dogs when they need a good brushing. It tends to calm down fluff too.

There probably is a dog equivalent of Show Sheen.

Baby, are you sure she isn't moulting, give it a good brush out first.
You are referring to the part of the leg up the top towards the backside aren't you?
I never cut my dogs fur. Trace is correct, it will look straight a funny till it grows back.

Meka has a spot like feathering on the back of her neck. When I was at the Doberman nationals show, they actually were having classes on how to trim this. I did not get a chance to attend. On the dobes some have it on the neck, and some on the nose. They called it "zippers". I'm not sure why.

Funny Dax. lol.

Baby, the only part of a Lab you trim if you want to get technical for show stuff is the tip of the tail. You round it off. That's it, also no glossy shampoo for Labs, they have to have a dense rough coat.

OK, thanks for the info, she definitely isn't moulting, I think perhaps it's because I bathed her yesterday, her fur is now soooo soft so perhaps that's why she looks so fluffy there! Perhaps I need to get a different shampoo. I can just imagine if you had said to trim, I'd be like, trim a bit, and a little bit more, and a little bit more and a little bit more - OH ****, what have I done???? LOL hubby was right on this one, I was stupid to even think about trimming...
