Tarsus injury

I have a 7 year old Lab/Cocker mix who tried to climb a chain link fence and fell. Her tarsus joint was bent sideways at about 30 degrees. The x-rays show no bone damage, but they want to have an orthopedic surgeon do a $2000 surgery to stabilize the joint. I'm sure there is tendon damage, but an x-ray does not show soft tissue damage so we can't tell the extent of the injury. We have a consult on Thurs. I love my dog, but I'm not sure I can afford this surgery. Is has anyone seen this kind of injury, and is there any chance the joint will heal on it's own?

I have not had experience with this type of injury but my thoughts are with you and your pup.

I found somewhere that this injury was really common in racing greyhounds.

Which surgery are you looking into? Is it a tarsal arthrodesis?
