New book

I just got a new book on training. Its called How To Teach Your Dog To Talk By: Captain Haggerty. Anyone have it? Our first lesson is going to be learning speak command. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Mmm No.

The only dog book I ever bought was The Monks of New Skete "The Art of Raising a Puppy". Other than that, I've just bounced along by advice of others.

I don't own any dog training books.. If I need a specific training book, I ask my OB instructor. She has them all. (well, just about)
But no, I've never read that book..

Well I bought this book after seeing pet star where there was a dog who could say i love you oh and the dog was also on david letterman. I just thought that was the coolest thing i had ever seen so I thought I wish I could get my dogs to do that. So I got this book we will see if i can get them to do it though.

I've heard a lot about the series by the monk's - how did you find the book? Is it worth buying?

It was quite good, the information was very good... not contradictory to anything else I've read. It's all about day to day stuff. It's something to read for the "This is my first puppy, am I doing all of this right?"

I wish you luck Lindsi, time and patience remember, it won't happen in a couple of days.
I also reckon a lot of dogs have a natural ability to learn such things too.
I'm sure I could teach Wally that, as he seems to make this speaking noise when he sees me, but Ellie would just look dumbfounded. lol.

I'm a firm believer is reading lots of different books from different trainers. The idea is to find ideas you are comfortable trying and can consistently do. Remember no dog is the same as another. Your dog might pick up one trick the first time and others take months.

I think the key is to break down a behavior into small manageable training sessions.
