Ok I had my dog to the vet today for his shots and a quick checkup. For the past two days he has been gagging like he has food stuck in his throat but nothing is coming up. I had forgot to mention it to the vet because he didn't do it for quite a while. I looked in his throat and I don't see anything although it does look somewhat inflamed. The thing is he hates the vet and tries to bite him. We have to muzzle/hole his mouth shut because he will attack him. He would have to be sedated to look into his throat. Any suggestions? Can I give him something to help whatever it is come out? The vet is closed now but I can take him Monday & have him sedate him and look. He doesn't seem to be in any pain or anything.

You can try the old remedy for fur ball in cats, give a tablespoon of caster oil, it will give the runs though.

If he keeps gagging you will probably have to go to the vets, I had a dog that did the same thing, turned out the little flap in his throat that covered the windpipe did'nt close properly, there was nothing we could do, he just lived with it.

Thank you for your advice. I kept a close watch on him the rest of the night and today. He has been eating and acting fine. He hasn't had any episodes today. I will continue to keep an eye on him. Thank you again!
