Question Puppy is poop trained but not pee trained!?

I can't figure this guy out but he's also my first winter pup. This little baby is poop trained but not pee trained and I just want to check if this is normal. He's a 9 week old German Shepherd and he never poops inside. He also goes all night without going pee or poop till he goes out for his morning break.

I let him out every 4 hours and he will come bark at me if I forget, but he will randomly just go pee in the kitchen on the hard ceramic tiles. It's the only place he's ever messed and it seems like he doesn't want to hold it durring the day, so he just walks over and empties whats there.(usually just a squirt) He's even done it right in front of me and I just say "Gibson go outside" and he runs to the back door. After he gets to the snow he just runs around and might pee a little more. He mostly thinks outside is only to poop and play. Sometimes he will go pee right after he gets back in.?>?>..

Thanks for any insight!

For 9 weeks, that sounds good to me.... 4 hours is a long time for a 9 week old pup.... I would cut that time down to 2 - 2.5 hours.

Easily, don't let him out of your sight. Put him on a leash, tie it around your belt loop... and add mega praise for peeing outside.

Thumbs up

Thanks Moo! This is good news and sounds like a very cool idea on the leash. I will get him out a little more often and see how he does...mega praise is no problem for me, the neighbors think I am crazy as it is.

LOL. See if you can assign a word to it too. Having a pee on command is great, saves time standing in the cold.

Yes, you're making good time... I had mine reliable at 12 weeks, but sometimes it can take months... depends on the dog.

Yep, Poppy was poop trained from the day we got her at 8.5 weeks. I take her outside every 1.5 - 2 hours when I'm at home for pee breaks. Sounds like your little one is doing good.

Lightbulb The Reason For Huim Not Being PEE-PEE Trained

I know exactly why he is not PEE-PEE trained. If he is a male dog then he of course will not pee on the newspaper or whatever you have for him. This reason is because male dogs don't pee like female dogs. The male dogs mark they're territory so that is probably why he don't pee on the mat or newspaper or whatever you have for him. If it's a girl dog, then I have no advice..

Troops- Not always true. Male dogs develop a leg lift with a pee. A dog at 9 weeks old won't **** his leg. At this age, they are not always sexually mature, and even then, they may not lift their legs.
