Strange Behavior

Hi, my 9 year old dog is acting very strange since we came home last night. He has done this a couple of other times this past year. He is acting like he is afraid of something. We have him on an invisible fence and he loves being outside. This morning he didn't want to go outside. He sometimes yipes like something hurt him but we can't find any areas on him where he seems to be in any pain. He is eating ok, but not sure if he is going to the bathroom. Could this be constipation? He holds his tail tight and sometimes shakes a little. Anyone seen this kind of behavior before?

Hmmm, the invisible fence i doubt could be the problem but really i dont like them. Lets say your dog starts running and goes past the fence. He gets a shock. Now lets say he wants to come back. He now has to endure another shock to come home Ive always said get a trainer to help you with boundary and perimeter training if you cant afford a fence around.

Well your dog is a bit older. When is the last time you have seen her go to the bathroom? OHHHHH!!! Maybe she saw firecrackers and was freightened. My dog cant stand the sound of them. That may be the problem considering she was outside at the time and a park or sometime like that had them. You think?

It's time for the vet!. A friend of mine's shepard all of a sudden acted like he was afraid but it turned out to be an illness (an infection if memory serves). Once he started treatment the behavior subsided.

Always rules out health issues first.

Two days ago Jake had a bad case of the runs - him and maddy went garbage diving.

Yesterday am he was acting a little weird. When I go back from shopping he was acting very much like you describe - so bad in fact that I thought that he had had a stroke. Walking stiff - back arched - body curled round - looking VERY submissive.

Needless to say I was panicked - and let me tell you - I don't panic easily - but 5 months after losing Ellie I went into overdrive.

Called my vet - office shut - called my old vet - office shut also, but they gave the number for the hospital in a nearby large town.

Get Jake booked in - get down there and the ****** acted fine - walking aorund sniffing butts, etc etc - like there was nothing wrong with him.

Vet gave him a good look over - could not find anything wrong with him, and after lengthy discussion it was decided that he must have been having cramps.

$45.00 to tell me that my dog probably having gas pains.....

But - I must say that I felt much better, and would always recomend the vet visit. If it is serious enough for you to be really worried - then $45.00 is a small price to pay for piece of mind.

I hope your baby is feeling better.

Yes, a vet trip is in order. If he yipes like he's in pain (as you said) then he probably is. It's just not on the outside where you can detect it. Let us know what you find out.

my 10 year old did this as well. what it was, was his neck. he was having pains in his neck and everytime he had a pulse he would feel it hurt, and he would hold his tail to the right while it was happening. we soon learned that he wouldn't want to go to the place where it first happened to him, and at the time it was in the living room. he refused to go there, because he remember that he was hurt there. his pains only lasted a short while, and then he was fine, but still for a few days after he would tend to stay where he thought he was "safe"

Fireking has his problems and has always been excited about going for a walk.
Recently though he gets excited when David puts the lead on him to for his run but some nights he wants to and some nights he gets to the front door and just backs away.
Just his condition i think. He knows if he has the stamina or not to go out or not and we just let him decide
