Puppies nails

I got a pm from a new member asking a question. I told them to post here but then I told them I would start it as I am not sure of the answer.

This person has a 4 day old pup whose nails are turning black. Is this normal?

I thought it was just getting pigment. PM is concerned about blood poisoning. Hopefully this thread will gain us some more information from member.

if it is a real concern take the puppy to the vet.
I have never heard of such a thing, but asking a vet would be the best..

hmmm...I've seen plenty of dogs with black nails, or with a few black nails. Hopefully it is just getting pigment in the nails and there's nothing to worry about....but to be on the safe side, when taken to the vet for a health check, or if it seems more serious, before then, ask the vet
