Clipping Corgis in the summer

I'm new here so maybe this topic has been discussed prior. Can Corgis be clipped in the summer months? I've owned Corgis nearly all of my life and was told by vets not to clip them becuase their coat is what keeps them cool. Thanks for any information regarding this!

Sharon

A dog's coat is what keeps them cool. A dog that is shaved too short will not be able to insulate himsef, and will be prone to heat stroke. Also, if the sun is able to shine through to the skin, your dog can sun burn unless a sunscreen is applied regularly.

Thanks Moo! I had such a time with my Corgis in summer getting hot spots that I wondered if it would help that. I have a friend who clips her Corgi every summer and he seems to do really well.

Jinjo's vet had like, 4-5 corgi's (not sure now, everytime we go anymore we get the vet tech), he shaved all his during the summer . It wasn't because of the heat I was told though, it was because he's so busy and wasn't very good with vacuums .
Anyway, I'm against shaving corgi's 110%!!! Sorry, but I like Jinjo's beautiful mane .
