Question Question about getting Dasiy Fixed

Ok so Dasiy is 5 months old now. She is a Doberman Pinscher. The vet says that next month I can get Dasiy fixed. I know that the longer I wait the more likely Dasiy will get tumors or really sick when she is older. But I've also heard that you should always wait till after she has her first period or after she has her first litter of puppies. Now I'm not saying I want to go out get Dasiy a mate & let her have puppies, but I do want to do what is best for Daisy. I want Dasiy to be happy & healthy for as long as she can be. I want her to have a long & happy life. So can someone out there tell me what is best for Dasiy! Thank you & have a great day!

go ahead and spay her before she comes in heat I haven't seen any benefit from waiting, but if she gets pregnant at a young age it could be very hard on her. why take the chance? Male dogs can smell a female in heat for a couple miles and if they can will hang around your house waiting for a chance and will mark and fight and dig etc. Who needs that?
I breed pugs and shihtzus and it can be very hard to put up with the mess of a heat in a larger dog blood spots on furniture , etc. If you aren't going to breed why wait?

I agree spay her before she comes into heat. You can actually have her done anytime since she is 5 months, she is old enough.
If she has puppies this young, it will stunt her development. Its like a 12 year old person having a child.
My poor female was bred way to young, thank god we rescued her!

You mean you haven't made that appointment yet? Seriously, you do not have to wait and I think it's better before. You also don't want to get caught getting the procedure done and she's in heat cuz it will cost more too. Good luck!

The chances of contracting cancers later in life increases exponentially with each heat a dog has before it is spayed. Being spayed before the first heat can also prevent aggression.

The longer you wait the more it will financially cost you. We had Uma spayed at the end of June. Because of her size and her age (at that time she was 15 months) it would have cost us $734.00. Please don't wait until her first heat. Daisy is old enough and mature enough to have the spaying done right now.

I agree, I would do it soon. Waiting until they've had their first heat or first litter is at a minimum outdated advice or maybe even an old wive's tale. There is no advantage to waiting now she is 5 months old. I have mine done at 6 months.

Maddie is now just over 3 months old. As soon as she's all done with her puppy shots, she will be spayed (around 6 months or so). Please, please dont wait for that first litter of puppies. Emma was in her second season and became pregnant. A C-Section/spay followed (major bucks!!) and, since I kept the pup, I swallowed all of the expensives. As long as she's healthy and happy...get it done. You'll avoid sooooo, any prob;ems and expensices.

Maia was 6 months when I got her spayed. From all I've learned on this forum and from our vet, this is the healthiest way to do it for her, before she went into her first heat. You should do the same with your pup to keep her the healthiest you can. Kathy and Maia

Most vets now days like to go ahead and get them fix at 6mo old. And if I was you I would do what the vet said. Go ahead and get it done before she gets any older.
