Tanner's sores

Here are the pictures of the sores that Tanner has. Greta and Tanner went to the vet yesterday for vaccinations and the vet put him on antibiotics for his sores as well as a repiratory infection (she said nothing too serious). Just thought that I would share them.

Aww, poor baby. The one on his breast plate looks like a bed sore the one lower down looks like a sore from licking (crate boredom?).

How's he coping with his separation anxiety? Poor guy, he's lucky you've found him.

The one on his chest is what I would consider a bed sore. The other one came from when he was at the boarding kennel. My guess is it is from the other dogs mounting him. The owner said that there was some serious mounting going on. And when Greta mounted him the other day, it was right where her legs wrapped around.

As far as his SA goes, he is better now when I am at home. He doesn't need to be by me at all times. That is a blessing. And I can let him out to potty without standing outside, but when it comes time for me to leave he becomes a basket case. Today, I took all three down to the kennel and he was frea.king out. He actually got loose from me as I was putting more straw in the kennel and he took off and ran all the way back to the house. Finally caught him and I had to drag him all the way back down to the barn. And he almost got away again. And I have to fight him to put him in the crate in the house also. He just needs to be by people. But like I said, I feel loved. So all problems aside, that is all that matters.

Can you try kennelling him when you're not leaving? He may get used to the idea better then.

I am going to have to agree and say he's lucky to have you.

To crate him in the house when I am home is a disaster. He barks. I do have the ability to ignore him, but he truly never stops barking. So there really is no opportunity for rewarding him when he is acting acceptable. He does the same thing is the car. I have to tie him in. I use a harness and put the seatbelt through it. If I am not petting/touching him at all times he will bark. Kinda hard to drive on the cra.ppy Wisconsin roads on handed. So I just let him bark. And he truly will not stop barking. I have tried ignoring him in the car, just continue to talk to him in a reassuring voice. Nothing works expect for petting him.

Wow. For your sake, I hope that's a temporary condition.

Like I said, we have made significant progress in some areas. He will go potty outside all by himself now. Previously, I would have to stand outside with him or he would not go. He would stand at the door and bark. I can actually go to the bathroom myself in peace. Before, if I got into the bathroom without and closed the door he would bark and dig at the floor until I came out. Now, that is not a problem at all. Yes, he would much rather be in the bathroom with me, but can accept the fact that he is not welcomed in. He will also crash out to sleep on the floor in the family room. Before that he thought he needed to sleep on my lap. So we are definitely making progress. Just faster in some areas than others.

Things seem to be going well. Remember I have had Meka 6 months, and she is just the now the dog I expected. I think things will continue to improve!

Yep, it has only been less than 3 weeks, we will get there eventually, and the obedience class is going to help wonders I think. Tanner will have just Tanner and mom time and Greta and Jack will be telling each other stories about the big ooff of a dog that doesn't know anything back at home. And probably letting the cats up on the couch for a quick nap.

I had Bailey for what seemed like ages before she started behaving the way I wanted. Probably about 6-10 months like Dobermom. But I didn't have to deal with Bailey barking.

Tanner sounds like he's doing great.
