Vaginitis in older, spayed dog?
Greta has had some girl issues in the past. She has clear dischage from her vulva. I have taken her to the vet, they have urine sampled, which came back clear, and said she was fine. I asked about vaginitis, and they told me it was more of a puppy issue than one of an adult dog. It seems to cure itself and life goes on.
This time it has lasted longer than normal and she seems more agitated than normal when she urinates. I sampled her urine at work and all came back okay. She is temping normal at 100.7-100.9 for the last three days. So I still take her to the vet? She is only occupied with her female areas immediately after she urinates, is not urinating more than normal and will comfortably let me palpate her bladder. Any suggestions? Or should I just cave and take her to the vet? |

Maybe she has a Yest Infection perhaps.

We had an adult, spayed female who had recurring problems with vaginitis and bladder infections. Sometimes she would get crystals in her urine and she would lick herself quite a bit because the crystals were irritating when they came out.
Y'all know me - I'm off to the vet for a pimple. |

ever infused?? like, with an a.i. rod, which is just a hard catheter.?? you'd want to first establish what it was. i'll bet with yeast you would see swelling, with an infection, you ought to be able to tell by the smell. you would use different agents in each case.

I am off to the vet tomorrow at 2:30. Now I am fr eaking myself out. I took another sample into work today since I didn't get the best sample last time. I then faxed the results to my vet. He recommended a check ASAP because her specific gravity as less than 1.005, which is not good especially since the color of urine was dark yellow. There is also moderate presence of biliruben and protein at 100 mg/dL. I didn't keep the last results since I am asked to get rid of any evidence of canine testing when I am at work (since the lab girls do it as a favor for me). Now I wish that I had it. No noticable discharge today. Temped at 101.3 tonight when i got home from class. Vet had to mention things like red blood cell deterioation, liver failure... Going to have a cystocentisis tomorrow and proceed from there. Not what I need right now, not financially but more importantly, not emotionally. Hopefully will have good news tomorrow. Fingers crossed

Let us know. The only brief thought that came to mind was that could it just be urine leakage? I think you know the difference between urine and discharge, but some females can develop lack of muscle tone and become incontinent. I think you're on top of it with the urinalysis, maybe culture and sensitivity as well?
Let us know what turns up. |

It is definitely not leakage. When and after she urinates, she has a clear mucus like discharge hanging from her vulva which she immediately tries to remove by cleaning herself.
Debbie--very low SG, but.... I am pretty sure that the lab at work does a stick SG reading rather than a refractometer reading so I am just keeping that as my saving grace at the moment. I will let you all know how it goes this afternoon. Thank you! |
