Training them to respect cars

My Dad's 11 month old dog Willie was killed yesterday in his driveway after he ran under the tire of someone leaving his house.

Really sad, since he's beeen a real family favorite with all the grandkids and my Dad was reallly attached.

How can you best avoid these kinds of accidents?

About all I can advise is to keep the dog contained away from the area the vehicles are, whether this is done with a fence or an underground containment fence. That is honestly going to be your best option.

I am really sorry to hear about your loss. My Carbon was almost 11 months old when he was hit by a car. It is just simply heartbreaking. My thoughts are with your family

My dogs are all trained so that whenever they hear a car coming they sit down on the grass next to the hedge (or fence or whatever when we are out for a walk) and do not move until i tell them to. It takes a little time but once one does it the others usually learn from them and it saves a lot of accidents.
