Stinky Ears, Eww!

Our 9 year old Spanial has seemed to have been bothered lately by her HUGE ears. The vet gave us some stuff to apply, yet I guess he forgot to EXPLAIN how to do it. And its 15 more dollars just to ask him - so I am hoping some one can help me out!

Any Help?

Thannks!!!!!
Katie

If it's what i think it is you just put a couple drops in. Rub the bottom of the ear to work it in and then let him shake his head. You can also use a cotton ball and wipe them out.. DON"T try to push it in though.

We use that stuff on our springers! They dont get to gunky though. The way we do it is to first squirt the stuff in the ear. Massage the outside of there ears to work it into the canal. Then take a guaze(or you can just skip this and go to q-tips) and get as much out as you can, then use q-tips(being VERY careful)

Does your spaniel have an ear infection? Sounds like it, and they sure are smelly.

What I have for my dog is a Rinse, and then drops. The rinse is used every other day for the treatment. The way I do it, is just squirt plenty on a gauze and try to get as much of the gunk out. If you have the drops as well, I would put either 4 or 8 drops in (depends on the size of your dog). Then just rub his/her ears to make sure it all gets in. It works great!

Good luck!

the cocker spaniel my family had used to have horrible ears and for him we had to put a solution in his ear canal and with the ear up so it didnt leak out massage it for a second and then allow it to empty...then use either cotton or long q-tip looking things and fish out the gunk that the solution dislodged...also if you do it very very gently you can use one of those ear bulb things like you use on people...

Can you be a little more specific when you say "stuff" Is it in a large bottle or is it ear drops? Does it say anything on the label....what type of med is it?

Sounds like it's an ear infection. When Loki had his, I would put the drops in and have a cotton ball hold it in until I could catch him again and take the cotton ball out.

if your vet would actually charge you to call and ask them to explain the directions on how to use it to you, find a new vet.

hope your pooch is feeling better soon.

I agree faith. I was taken aback by that statement about the vet charging an extra 15.00 for a phone conference.

It shouldn't be an extra charge if the vet didn't explain it in the first place. Call the vet up and just explain that they didn't show or tell you how to apply the medicine during your visit and ask if they can explain it to you or show you without charging you... but I also agree with BabyE and fairlight... if your vet won't explain something that simple without charging you, then I'd find a new vet.
