grass

gadget has this habit of chowing on grass when ever we take her out...sometimes she only chews it and then spits it out but lots of times she eats it...weve started calling her our little cow...anyway ive read that this is a sign that they arnt getting all the nutrients they need so i was wondering if i should give her vitamins...or maybe add some veggies to her food...any ideas?

There are so many theories, etc about why dogs eat grass that it's hard to say for sure why they do it.

If you are feeding a good quality dog food, I would suspect it is balanced already. You can add some green tripe to her diet.

Why not add a little green bean over a week and see if it makes a difference in her grazing. If not, then she might just like it.

it would fit very much into her personality to just like it lol...i didnt even consider that...well then i guess the better question is as long as there isnt anything on it like pesticide or anything its ok for her right?

As long as it's only grass it shouldn't hurt her. I remember one member here saying that they grew grass just for thier dogs to eat.

Faith just likes to eat it. and, she's particular about what kind it is - she really likes the longer, thicker blades more, i guess you can call it "wild" grass. she won't eat regular grass in someone's yard.

Jackie eats grass occasionally. Alaistair hasn't started eating it, but I've seen him chew at it (he emulates Jackie A LOT).
I think of it as them having a bit of salad. They get meat meals every day, why not have a little salad every now and again?

At least no one's asking me for blue cheese dressing for it because believe me, if they thought they could get it, they'd ask. LOL

Both of mine eat grass. I think nothing of it... just something they like to do.

Louise eats specfic types of grass as well. At the reservior's dog park, she finds areas and starts mowing it down. And, in fact, after the winter's several snowstorms began to melt and grass came back it was like she was reunited with her long lost friend.

Ollie eats grass but spits it out, he just does it cause Louise does.
