Poppy keeps being sick

She threw up on the bed yesterday at about 2am, it was "food" and not just stomach acids. So, I only gave her a small amount of food when I went to work yesterday and when I got home there was loads of vomit all over the floor, and this may be too much information, but it was on the walls too.

I felt so guilty, poor thing, she was being ill and I wasn't there for her. Anway yesterday evening at about 7pm I just gave her some plain dog biscuits, well, 2 hours later she brought that back up as well. So I just left her water down. She started wanting some food at about 11pm so I gave her some boiled egg and rice, she managed to keep that down. So I've done the same this morning, but I won't know until I get home how she is. BTW her poop is fine.

Does anybody know what this is or can offer any advice. If she is still the same when I get home tonight then I will call the vet but in the meantime ideas anyone?

I hope Poppy is feeling better.
I'm not too sure what it can be since you said poop is fine. Doesn't sound like anything is blocked if both ends are working.
Please keep us posted, I'm sure someone will have some advice for you!

starve her for 24 hours, then chicken, boiled egg and rice for a further 48 hours and then start to mix in her regular food. If at any point she vomits again take her to the vet.

Could she have gotten into something around the house, such as cleaners or some sort of people food like chocolate?

Is there any way you or someone she knows could check in on her sometime during the day? I would feel weird leaving her alone all day again, where she was so sick yesterday. I would watch her for other symptoms, such as listlessness, lethargy, dizziness, etc. and keep feeding her SMALL amounts of plain food (the egg and rice is good, too).... if nothing is better today, I would take her to the vet ASAP and have him/her check Poppy out. A trip to the normal vet to have them tell you she just has an upset stomach is better than a trip to the ER vet for the same diagnosis.

I would check into the cleaner/chocolate (even shampoo, soap, onions, etc etc) thing as well... you never know what they get in to.

Hugs to Poppy, I hope she feels better soon!

Poor poppy Could she have eaten a hairball? Chloe ate some of my hair and looked odd for a day till she brought it up but she didn't bring up food - although its possible that the hair is stuck and Poppy is throwing up trying to get it out? Gosh I wish I could help more -Hope she feels better soon...hang in there baby.

Baby.. I'm just going to add the little extra info you've given me on this. The first night she started, she did have some raw hide. Pepto will help too. Make sure to be a poop detective for the next couple of days.

Other than the vomit, she's still fine. No fever, pain, listlessness?

Alright, rawhide. Is this a new thing for her? Has she had it before, this exact brand. Check the packaging and see where it is from/made. Anything not form the US or Canada is usually slightly suspect as these other countries (Brazil, Mexico, etc) are warmer climates and the beef is treated with "preservative" (usually arsenic) before it is transported, unrefrigerated, hundreds if not thousands of miles before being processed. Arsenic= bad (obviously)... so if the bag is labeled with "preservative" assume arsenic.

Also, bring this to the attention of your vet, they may have more input on the situation.

Bailey used to do the same thing, and I'd do like Lou said and starve her for a day, only water available to her. Then she'd get rice and oatmeal and little bits of chicken for a day or two, then back to her food.
We kept going on and on like this for a while, thinking it was all the grass she ate that was upsetting her. One day she actually threw up a 12 inch length of grass that her belly had knotted into a rope. Our vet, not being primarily a small animal doctor, wasn't any help. We finally figured it out after Bailey spent nearly a month at my sister-in-law's and then refused to eat when we brought her home. Apparently, her food was too rich for her and made her belly hurt. Changed her food and haven't had any problems since.

OK, thanks Dax for reminding me about the rawhide. To try and answer all questions, rawhide is not new to her diet, it's the same stuff she's being having since day one. I looked at the packaging and it just said "Hide Chews" nothing about preservatives or anything. She hasn't eaten any human food so the only other thing I can think of is that she's picked something up whilst out walking (but we haven't been to town so it's none of that pavement food that I posted about a while back!).

So, I left work 2.5 hours early today to go home as I was worried about her, she had been sick again but more like yellow stomach acids this time rather than food. So I changed her water and then fed her some Pepto (how difficult was that - LOL) and some chicken and rice later on. It's now some 2.5 hours since she had the food and touch wood it's stayed down. She's not listless or in pain (I felt her stomach like the vet did that time to see if she yelped or bit me or anything and she didn't) but I can tell she isn't well from the look in her eyes.

So, she's going to get loads of TLC from me and I'm going to give her all the hugs you lot have sent. I'll keep you informed - thanks guys.

The vet doesnt feel the stomach primarily to check for pain, they are palpating the internal organs in order to see if they can feel anything out of the ordinary. If the dog does yelp when they touch a certain point that just helps to pinpoint the problem.
