Bee sting?

Hi-I'm off work today, so I had Maia out in the yard playing (its a treat for her because usually she is in her crate while I'm at work). All of a sudden she jumped back and started licking her paw. The only thing I figured happened was that she stepped on a bee . She won't let me near her feet so I can't look at it real close. I was just wondering if there is anything I need to worry about. I know when my lab who passed away last year got bitten by a spider, his whole body broke out in welts and his face swelled up. Should I look for the same symptoms in Maia? And would it happen immediately, or over time (any adverse reactions)? She isn't really paying much attention to it, so I'm hoping that if she had a stinger in it, she pulled it out. Now that I said that, she jumped up on the couch with me and is licking it again. Anyway, thanks for your help! Kathy and Maia

Watch for excessive swelling. My guys have mild reactions lasting only about 1 - 2 hours which can be treated with Benadryl.

If there is any difficulty breathing, then I would take to a vet asap.

You can apply a little ice to the area and make sure the stinger is out.

A one time bite will not produce antibodies that will set up any allegergic reations. It's the second or third that will produce any antibody effects. I wouldn't worry too much over the sting. It will resolve.

Yep-by the next day, she was fine. I know about the 2nd bee sting problem-my daughter is highly allergic to stings. I wasn't sure if it worked the same way in dogs. But it makes sense. I'll have to make sure (as much as I can) that she doesn't get stung again. Thanks for your help. Kathy and Maia
