Unhappy please help..i may have put a dog in danger!

first some background on the dog. on july 7th i got a knock on the door. it was one of the nieghboors with a small pitbull mix puppy. he said that it had been hanging around for about two days and no one was claming him. he wanted to know if i could take him in. i said sure. i made two signs and put them in the front yard and street and a few at the corner stores. two weeks later and no one clamed him. i got him dewormed and vaccs. that weekend my gpa's neighboor called and said that he heard i had puppy looking for a home. he said that he was looking to get his 7 year old daughter a dog. i told him the rules. such as must be inside dog and all that good stuff. so i take him over there and the girl was very excited and named him scooby dooo. a week later the dog was outside on a chain. but with in the hour he was back in the house. i seen no prob with it. but tonight i was over my gpas and i seen him so i hoped the fence. he was on a 10' chain tied to a clothes line pole. he had a dog house that he could not reach b/c he was wrapped around the pole. he did have water. the collar and tags were gone and he had chain on his neck. he was drity and covered in poo. and the area was cluttered with bricks and poo and it looked like tar. i was ready to take him right there. but was scared he might say that i stole the dog. i gave him the vet papers so i have no recored that he was ever in my care. i was thinking about calling animal control butt...he is a pitbull mix. and they would prolly just put him down. i was thinking about taking pics and then just taking him and leaving a note that said i was not happy with his care and that if he cared to have him back to call me. what should i do.

I would pay them a visit just to see how things are going. Then work my offer to take the dog back in during our conversation. I hope it goes well. Keep us posted!!

I agree the first step is to talk to them. Perhaps they are just having trouble with an issue you can work out with them.

Talk to him, and feel him out, he may not want the dog anymore, and you can easily get him... Hopefully he will let the dog go...

Honestly, I would have stole the dog back. They would have never known and probably not had the guts to tell you because you asked them to keep it inside.
But- I'm mean and bad when it comes to mistreating dogs expessially pits, because they are my weakness.
Maybe you should just listen to the people above me! lol

I would either leave a note with the new owner or call animal control and tell them the situation and if they decide they need to remove the dog then you will take it back.

Knowing me, I'd just take it back when he wasn't looking. But, that's just me. That could be dangerous. If he came looking, I'd just tell him that wasn't the deal. Period.

Are there two identical threads on this or am I losing my mind?
