dog in immediate need

So here's the background. My parents own a rent house across the street from where they live. For the past year they rented it out to a guy who was studying law at the local university. Well, their tenant had gone home for the summer and sub-let the house out to 5 of his friends. While the tenant was gone, the renters in the house next door (not my parent's house) moved away and abandoned a dog. The sub-letters in my parent's house took the dog into their backyard and gave her food and water for the summer (I don't think they ever did anything with her except feed her). Anyway, so two weeks ago, my parent's tenant comes back to find out that he now has a dog. Then last Friday, the tenant got word that he had been accepted to a different University closer to his family (in one of the Carolinas)... and he had to be there by 8 AM this morning. So he packed up and left town this weekend and the dog has been abandoned AGAIN.
My parents were scheduled to leave town on Saturday morning, and dad was getting ready to call animal control to have them come get the dog. But our shelter is a kill shelter and I know that poor dog would be dead in 3 days if AC had come to take her. So I convinced my dad to let me take care of it and started calling all the local rescues. I told my dad that I would try and take the dog somewhere on Saturday (2 days ago). So that brings us to today. 2 of the rescues I have talked to aren't taking any animals right now. One of the rescues wasn't very helpful and said that they couldn't take the dog because it was not an owner surrender (how could she be an owner surrender if she has no owner) that rescue told me to call AC or the humane society. So I called the Humane society. They are full and told me to look at their web site for a list of local rescues (all of which I've already contacted). I also got a hold of the SPCA on Saturday, they said that they are pretty full but that she would have an intake coordinator call me either on Saturday or today. So at 3:00 today I called SPCA back and the lady I talked to said she didn't know who I had talked to on Saturday but that it typically takes 72 hours for the intake person to call back. Now I'm getting worried because when my dad gets home on Wednesday, he's going to expect the dog to be gone and if she isn't, she's headed to the shelter. I can't take her. Not even for a couple of days. We're having our own dog-related issues right now, and even taking her for a day or two is out of the question. My best hope at this point is that SPCA will call me back tomorrow. And if they don't... I guess she's off to the pound. Unless anyone here has any other ideas..... please??? Anyone???

What kind of dog is it and is it friendly. Try putting out flyers for a dog for sale and home her yourself. Also try and ask the humane society to help contact rescues. Sometimes if they say they have this dog that needs to be brought in by them they take em over just a random person calling.

I'm not sure what her mix is, but she's medium sized and very friendly. If I don't hear from the SPCA tomorrow, I'll talk to the humane society again. It's just hard for me to understand how every rescue in the area can be so unhelpful.

Urgh... I hate people that abandon dogs like that That's how my grandma ended up with Betsy- my cousin who used to live near LSU found her living and wandering around a park and rescued her
Like has already been said... try putting up flyers for her with a cute picture of her on it. Maybe you could take her to Petsmart or a park or somewhere and let people know she's for adoption. If she's cute and friendly someone may be impressed by her and take interest.

I know they may seem unhelpful, but rescues are SO overwhelmed this time of year. If they tell you they are full, they are.
As far as the one telling you it has to be an owner surrender, thats because of legal junk, just sign the form as if you are the owner, at this point by default I guess you would be.
Try to be patient, sometimes it takes a bit for a rescue to pull a foster home out of their butt.

Although this seems like a good idea to start with but you never know who might take the puppy. Rescue organizations take applications and do in-home checks before they adopt to someone. Adopting out to someone you meet in the parking lot may mean that dog will end up in rescue again. Just something to think about.

I'm not saying dump her with the first person who likes her... I mean see if someone might be interested and go from there

The thing is that I just really don't have the ability right now to handle the adoption process. There is a lot going on for me right now. I mean I really want this dog to end up with a home, but there is only so much that I can personally do. The SPCA didn't call today. This sounds really bad, but maybe if I took her to the SPCA after hours and left her there with a bowl of water. I mean rescues might turn away someone who's calling them on the phone, but surely they wouldn't turn away a dog left on their doorstep? I don't think I could bring myself to do that, though... even saying it outloud sounds awful.

I wouldn't sign claiming ownership. Only because if they keep records and she wants to adopt a dog/cat later on down the road, won't that look bad?

I don't know if they do that, but that would be awful to find out later.

Yes, they do keep record, but if it saves this dog does it matter?
There are plenty of other rescue she would be able to adopt from.
Personally I have signed over ownership on a few dogs I have rescued, the rescue knows the story, and of course would still adopt to me. Its just a legal avenue they need paved to take in the dog.
