Oh, Weezy.

So just when you think Louise is enough of a lemon, she comes up with something new!

Last week I brought her into work and she had lost 3 lbs, so we tested her thyroid again and sent off bloodwork to Texas A&M for the cobalamin. Well, they they lost the blood supposed to be sent off, so I had to bring back in today. The thyroid panel did show that, once again, she does not have hypothyroidism and it's normal. Then, tonight as I am getting ready to leave I discovered something. This is where the excitement happens. We found she has a new slab fracture on one of her molars.

It looks pretty fresh, her pulp is exposed and with probing she is painful. I am off tomorrow, but we are going to do an emergency dental procedure to fix the tooth. We are going to try to do a pulp osteotomy (similiar to a root canal) to save the tooth! If it wasn't new I would have just decided to extract the tooth, but since we have the chance might as well try and save it.

Ugh.. just got home from the hospital (it's only 11:35 PM ) -- that's a whole nother story, but my aunts dog came in febrile and with an abcess from a week old puncture wound from a dog attack. Oy vey.

I'll update you all tomorrow after we try to fix the tooth and let you know how Louise is doing!

Someone once told me that dogs like Louise pick thier owners knowing they would be well cared for. Good thing too in her case.

Last week we did a T4 and a TSH. Times prior we've done T4, Free T4, TSH. All normal. I did print up all the thyroid testing we've done to compare numbers. She was on low end of normal in 2005, then higher in 2006, and then back to low end of normal now.

The cobalamin is still pending from Texas.

And.. as for her picking me to support her costly needs. I suppose some sort of higher power put the two of us together for this purpose. She is such a needy dog. Good thing I get discounts on medical work. But, Louise would be a veterinarians business dream! Always something somewhat expensive. It's official now, she has one more department to hit up in the hospital -- surgery. She's seen the internist, the dermatologist, she's hung out in ICU for a day, she's had rads, her name is familiar in the lab, she's done endoscopy, has tons of meds from the pharmacy.. and NOW dentistry! Maybe it's a contest for her?

LOL, I bet it is a contest. She wants to win some world record.

So all is well! We fixed the tooth, and hopefully it stays there. There is a chance it may come off, and we'd need to do it again.

This is the second time I've been around her with anesthesia, and both times she wakes up so BAD. She wakes up initially okay, then starts to freak out and flailed all over the place! Then I was holding her in the air as she was running/swimming in the air. She scratched my leg pretty badly, and then we gave her some acepromazine to calm her down and she's been out since.

I should have taken a before and after pic.. didn't think. Sorry bout that.
