Lost Dog, success story!

Before I tell the story, I have to say something. I love my husband. I love the giant heart he has for these dogs and I am very lucky to have him. That said, here goes.

I believe it was fairlight who just last night said things happen in threes.

Two nights ago, Jake saw a young pup running loose in the bronx. He spent the night trying to catch it rather than sleep but he never caught it. Disheartened, he loaded the truck and went on his way. On the way back, he saw another dog running on the shoulder of the highway. He pulled the semi over and once again attempted to catch it. It took off across the highway, amazingly arriving safely across 8 lanes of freeway. He was on someone elses time, so he couldn't exit and re-enter on the westbound. Again, he left disheartened. Well, he unloaded and began to return to the city.

The truck needed work immediately, so he had to turn around halfway there. On the way back, dog three came along. He once again pulled over and attempted to get the dog. Well Laila, as her name turned out to be, came FLYING to him. Poor baby was terrified. So, he put her in the sleeper and of course she was terrified of all the noises. But, they got home safely and he kept her overnight since it had to be 2 am when he called me. He was supposed to call her family this morning, but since he is working on the truck this morning, I haven't heard the story yet. I'm sure they have been notified and have their baby back. Thank GOODNESS he managed to get her! She was terrified and on an 8 lane highway!

What are the chances the truck would break at the same time as that dog was lost. Fate, I say!

Laila is a small spaniel mix, most likely cavi crossed with something else.

Well, here's what happened. Laila's mom is a military wife who's hubby is in Iraq right now. She was watching her nephews who had little fake guns that make a "POP" noise. Leila spooked and managed to wiggle her way out of the yard. She had been gone for two days already.

When Jake called, he was 20 minutes away from where the woman lived. He said she got there in 10. She was frantic and extremely happy to have her baby back. She offered him an $800 reward, which of course, he turned down. The money would really help us, but we can't accept money for helping a dog. The woman said this dog was the only thing keeping her going while her husband was gone.

Thats great! Tell Jake we all say thanks, and we miss him!

...and Dobermom says there would have been nothing wrong with accepting a fraction of the reward!

What a great story!! Glad Jake was able to help her get her dog back. Now at least she'll be able to sleep at night.
