Look at who I had to leave behind tonight.. HELP

Ok, first off I know I'm probably posing this to the wrong forum but I really need words of wisdom from all of you.
We went to a nasty apartment tonight to pick up a basset hound as we have 2 approved homes on a waiting list for one. The guy also had a pit bull girl there who it is breaking my heart not to have taken! She was beautiful and oh so sweet! Only about 2-1/2 yrs old. I was able to take some photos of her so I can contact the pit rescues and a relative about her. My house is so full right now and I'm fighting the urge to go back and get her anyway! We made a "rule" to only have 1 pit in foster at a time as they take forever to place and we have to say no to A LOT of dogs meanwhile. We currently have 1 at the other foster house and I have the pit mix puppy that was returned (doesn't resemble much of a pit at all).
So here are her pictures. I know we can't save them all. I also see tons of picutures and don't have to meet or hold them all as I did her tonight.. HELP ME OUT HERE MY FRIENDS>> pleeeeeeeeeease?
This is the filth they are/were living in:

This is the lovely girl! Her name is Geneva. Should be Genevive <wink>

Do you think she was happy to meet me?

Somebody get me a kleenex!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How could I have left her there???? Look at her NAILS for goodness sake!! I must be losing it!

I wish I could help you, it's SO hard leaving them behind like that. You can only do what you can do. Just keep looking for someone to take her.

I know RC, I'm trying!. I've got until the 10th because that's all he has left. If she's not found a place to be by then, the humane society gets her and most don't make it out of there as that's most of the residents at all times! Cross your fingers that someone here is homed by then. I think Samson has a good possiblity in the works. I know we have the "1 pit rule" but I was told I could break it if I felt so inclined but to realize I may have a long time resident (Merle was 6 going on 7 months here).
As much as it breaks my heart, I can know I can't help every emailed picture I get.. but to get a hug & kiss......... and I'm can't wait to get the nail trimmers to that poor sweet thing!

I know, it's HARD. There is a dog at our old rescue that I walked and loved and she's still there, living in a kennel. I wish we were still there just so I could get her into a nice, comfy home.

What do you think about me taking her in if I get room (and I probably will) before the 10th? I mean, the number of homeless dogs I would be able to place in the same amount of time it would take to place her.... This is so painful at times

It's a tough call, Teresa. Some dogs are just too special to pass up. But, numbers is really important, too. If you can adopt out 5 dogs in the time it takes to adopt out 1, it's VERY hard to decide what to do.

This is why I hate this part of rescue. Who gets to pick which dogs are saved. It's a bit like playing God and I can't do it. Pit rescues are full to the max, the humane society has more than enough pits, they are hard to adopt out for a reason. People don't understand what great dogs they really are and man are there a lot of them out there needing homes.

Personally, once I saw that face, I would be doing everything in my power to save her even if it meant taking her in. But I would then feel guilty about not saving others while fostering her. I think either way, you're saving lives. It's just how do you pick which lives to save? Is one better than the other? Not really.

Sorry, I'm of no help.

You are a great help just being here for me as it's all bouncing around in my head! I'm really hoping one of the pit rescues or my sister, who is down to 2 pits, may be interested in her... I probably won't hear back from either until tomorrow so tonight I just get to worry about her (I know I shouldn't, can't help it though... why'd she have to be such a sweetheart???

Oh Teresa! I'm so sorry for you! I know you are beating yourself up right now, but know that what ever you decide, either way, you have saved lives.

I think they are always sweethearts when you are in a bind like this. It's cruel of them, lol, but they are just doing what they know best, loving. I know, that doesn't make it any easier though, lol.
