Lots of applications on Chyna...but frustrated!

I guess this is a bit of a rant.

I have recieved 5 applications on Chyna in the past 3 days, and numerous other emails. The applications are from Chicago to South Carolina and everywhere in between.

Every comment is how beautiful she is, not her personality sounds great, or I think our family would be a fit.
After I contact the people I learn more of what they want. Most are looking for a black, cropped and docked Doberman. One applicant is a woman who use to show Dobermans, and wants the beauty, one guy is a cop, he seems like he wants the macho look.

It just really bothers me people seem to be seeking her beauty before HER! I know many people love that cropped look, and so do I, but my next dog will be personality first, looks 2nd.

The stubborn person I am, may not let any of these people have her! Honestly I am still undecided if I am going to keep her or not.

Perhaps that's why your being so critical of every applicant?

Honestly looks draw me to a dog before any little paragraph written in an email. Why not tell them about her personality and ask if that's the type of dog they would like. Almost everyone will see the physical beauty before the inner beauty. Just make sure the applicant sees both.

That is.. if you really do want to adopt her out...

Maybe I'm vain but all my breeds were chosen on their looks,1st and obviously, personality. When you look at a picture, you look at how nice, they look. Then, you ask,the person you talk to, about the character.
I must say,she is gorgeous!.

See, I took Meka sight unseen. I took her on her personality. If it were looks I would not have adopted Meka due to her size, I thought I wanted a bigger female.

Maybe they are taking her personality for granted. A rescue with personality problems would not be up for adoption or would have it clearly spelled out in the profile. (or that might be thier understanding).

Maybe talk to them some more and see if any of them is suitable.

Ut Oh!! This is exactly the senario I went through with Ginger! I did end up keeping her and have not regretted it for a moment!
Besides your stated thoughts, I also had the following:
I don't know Chyna's past but Ginger had lived at 4 places in homes or fosters. She needed alot of help when she came to me and overcame most everything quickly! I don't know how many other homes without training and work she could have gone through before she would be permanently ruined.

I also believe that when the right one does come along, you'll know it and so will she. Merle taught me that!

I had rescued Dob's back in the 70's when they were so popular. Every idiot with the small-man-syndrome or macho-freak- syndrome wanted a big bad dobe. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! I know you won't let her go to some dumb-cluck that wants a manhood extension! I can't tell you how many abuse and neglected dobes there were in the 70's. It is happening all over again with the rotties and pits.

I vote you keep her!!! ;-)

My vote is for you to keep her... And I do hear you. If I were trying to adopt her, looks are important to me, but I would have 100 questions about her personality. I just think tho that you are leaning towards not letting her go, and if you do that, perhaps I will get to meet her one day... (not you, just her....) I say keep her if you can... You will end up finding many more that you will have to place....

I feel the same way that many of the forum friends do. I do go by looks first because basically that is what you see. It's not until the person meets the dog, then you know if you have a match or not. Good luck Dobermom, and if you find that you are being too picky that must mean that Chyna is supposed to be with you. Please keep us posted.

Not always the looks....
This reminds me of one of my trips to the humane society when I was seeking a male dog. I went into the cat room and saw the "ugliest" cat I've ever seen. It was an adult and was the sweetest cat ever! I seriously thought of adopting it and breaking my 2 cat only rule. Looked down and she was the only cat in the room that was adopted!!!

From my experience with Ginger though I still say, her photos on petfinder (or however you field them out to the public) are what will get her the attention, then her profile or bio, then it's the meet... is there a connection? If not, no way. If yes, you'll see it in her mostly with them and the observance of them with her will be the determining factor IMO.
If it just never works out the way you want... maybe she's supposed to be yours!
