RC needs rescue advice

There is a collie. A sweet, beautiful, loving collie. I know where she is, I know her situation all too well, and I know her current owners. I know she needs out.

This is going to sound weird because I can't tell anyone all the details. Here goes...

Jake and I have already discussed this girl and we may be able to do something. This dog is about a year old and has already had one litter. She lives outside and is not in any good condition.

The owner is willing to give me this dog... but I have to KEEP the dog. I cannot rehome her. She goes to me and stays with me.

We have discussed it already and here's our thoughts.

1. We can take her and keep her. At least she's safe, but at least while we live in the smaller house, we're pretty much done. No more dogs.
2. We can try to find her a home and then if all works out, just give them the number to get them the dog. They can all do it on their own.
3. We can take her and keep her a while. Send pics, say she's doing well and then fake a cry and say she was hit by a car or something and rehome her.

What do you think? What should we do? This is a tough situation. The dog is getting food and water, but just not cared for at all.

so basically lie to get dog out? without saying why it's so horrible or how close these people are to you, or what is going on and I can't advise. Is this dog facing certain death? aprearantly they do have care for the dog if they will only release under conditions it's with you. i would be upset to know an animal I placed with consitions was purposfully sent elsewhere and the agreement was made with the intent of not honoring it.

As far as I know if you are in the US and you "own" a pet, you are free to do what you wish with the pet. Even "breeder's contracts" sometimes do not stand up to a legal challenge.
Frankly if they are not taking good care of the dog I would not give a flip about any stipulations they put on you adopting her. Do they deserve more consideration than would a breeder? I say not. Foster the dog and later on find a good home and to with what the current owners want.
If they are neighbors and you would have a hard time hiding the fact that she is gone, fake a trip to the vet.

That's my problem. I would love to take the dog and keep it. It's not facing certain death, but it is by NO means being cared for properly. I don't like to lie and I feel this is just plain dishonest which is why I don't know if I can do number 3. My only issue with keeping the dog is that others fosters won't be an option.

Look, nobody likes to lie. Nobody likes to steal either. But sometimes there are reasons that make it the lesser of two or more evils.
I guess my only question is whether these people would go out and get another dog to replace this one if you were to take her. If that is the case then maybe you can help more by keeping an eye on her where she is.

BM:You would be amazing if you could save another rough collie!.
Good-luck,RC,in doing the right thing?.
Did you actually check the law,in yr town to know how many dogs you can have?.For all you know, you can have 4 and then,it wouldn't be an issue!.

No, they have another dog that lives inside and they wouldn't replace her. They just don't want her anymore. I don't understand why they let the other inside but not her. She's a sweet girl.

Well I would be able to find it in myself to be dishonest if it meant giving the dog a better life. I don't normally bend my morals easily but this is a case where I would not lose a moment's sleep over it. Have you ever heard 'the end justifies the means'? What would the dog tell you to do if she could?

I know what you mean, EllyMay. I am hoping that I can find the dog a home without ever taking the dog myself. I have one person I think might be interested and I am going to call them tonight. If they are, then all this will be over. If not, then I am back at square one.

The person wants me to keep the dog because they don't want the dog bouncing. They thought it would be fun to breed the dog once and knew nothing about breeding. I found out about the dog through a family member who can't take her but didn't want her to suffer.
