any advice to make it fun?

I'm getting ready to go out and play with my dog and help her get "refreshed" on her obideience. i want to be able to take her out to my barn where i ride and after seeing my trainers dog (a border collie who was SOOO well behaved) it made me want to make my dog like that! lol. It came when ever she made the slightest whitsle sound and never hesitated to listen when she said something, she could tell her to lay down from across the arena and he WOULD! I was very impressed. but do you have any advice on how to make it fun? I did just teach her to play dead in less then 5 minutes so she isnt stupid, lol. But anything would be good, but mainly her coming when called the FIRST time! Thanks guys!

Come-- your best bet. A long line and a bunch of treats. Start short. 4-6 feet away and tell her to come. Only once. And pull the long line towards you to make her come so that she has no other option. Give her a treat, tell her good come. Over and over and over again. Never ever tell her to come if you can not enforce it, (ie no long line or leash attached). Once she is coming to you short distances without you pulling her towards you, you have made progress. My long line is 50 feet. It can be a pain in the patutty but it works. Start making in the distances longer and longer. My favorite thing about a 50 foot lead is that my dog can be off and playing and I can 50 feet away and still make him listen by enforcing the command. I don't care what you are doing or what you want to do, you are going to come.

I now can call my dog where ever he is or whatever he is doing he will come. He is very food motivated so he still gets treats for coming when I call. It is a good reinforcement.

Great advice GretaJack... you said it perfectly!!! Another option, though, for dogs that aren't food motivated would be a favorite toy. (that's all I have to add, GretaJack said it perfectly!!!! )
