I know when I lived in Maine for so many years, animal control was on you like white on rice, but that was in a different district then the Portland area. It could have been payola. I too don't understand why it took so long.

Is there any way to affect the state legislation there for things like this in the future???

I really don't know who to blame more in this case. These so called "breeders" with over 200 dogs or the police. The newspaper reports that the owners refused the police entry? Give me a break! A judge could have easily been called for a search warrant.

There is no sparkle in their eyes at all These people are pure evil. Their greed beggars belief I too ask the question, why didn't the animal rescue organisations and the police get a warrant to raid and seize the animals years ago. As soon as they knew there was a serious problem they should have acted. How many dogs died a painful and lingering death in total misery because of their inaction? One can only hope that as many of these poor dogs as possible can be saved and at least given the chance of a good, kind home.
