Tanner's first class

Well, somewhere deep inside that thick skull of his, Tanner does have a brain. It took him a while to find it, but it is in there. The first part of class he was a nutcase. Spinning, and pulling and jumping and growling. I was exhausted even before class started since I was put in charge of dog patrol. Being the first class with dogs, people are asked to come early for collar fittings and payments. I am the one responsible to keep all the people and dogs separated. That was a joke when I had Tanner with me.

But, finally, he remembered some of the stuff that he and I have been working on. All of a sudden the lightbulb came on. So even though I was exhausted, I was proud. There is hope for him yet.

And I had him on a slip collar for the class. He actually seemed to response to it after while. That is nice. I really was clueless as to what to do about his collar situation. But I think this is going to work with just the slip.

Yeah Tanner! Just think how well behaved he'll be by the end of the course! I haven't used a slip collar before........does it tighten if he pulls? Does it then gag, choke? I know they aren't supposed to pull, but Gretta does sometimes. Right now I'm using a pinch collar on her (which she does respond to) but I HATE it! It makes her look like a mean dog. I work with her a lot but she cont. to pull when excited. Especially if she sees another dog.

Slip collar=choke collar. They are the same thing. I hate the term choke collar because you are not really choking them if it is used correctly.

There are prong collar covers that fit right over the collar but doesn't change its effectiveness if it really bothers you.
