Get some non stick wound dressings, place over wound, then use some adehesive tape over the top, make sure it is firm but not too tight, check for any excessive bleeding in the first hour. If you need to remove any dressing make sure you pull it downwards from the wound, not across or upwards.
Hope all is well. Ellierat. |

This sucks. I brought him in she said it was from him licking the bandage? She gave me a spray and said to just keep him away from it for 20 minutes I got home from work they were bleeding like REALLY BLEEDING I sprayed them the night dose applied a gauze patch and wrapped it with a rubber like pet medical wrap anything else I should do? I can't keep him away from it completley he is crated all day while I am at work and at night I moved him to the kitchen hoping more room, toys, etc. will keep him more distracted bu they seem to really hurt so I doubt it I cant cone him for 8hrs by himself can I? Can I spray the bandage with bitter lotion?

Can you get a cone collar. They sell them here at petsmart just for this reason. IT will drive him nuts but it's only for a few more days. Or give him something more interesting like a meat bone at least while he's healing.
PS I got my books and might have some ideas for you with the lunging problem once this is out of the way. Do you have some old socks you can put over the bandages at least for tonight? He'll get them off but it might give a couple of minutes healing time. [ June 23, 2004, 09:53 PM: Message edited by: doglover ] |

Cant wait to hear whatr you read. It seems to be ok He licks them when I am not looking if I am around he focuses on his hooves, ears, meaty bone, chews, nylabone. They dont seem to be bothering him as much this morning but I will see tonight when I change them again.

Yes,it is fine to spray on top of the bandage, trying to think what else you can do.

I would suggest a busta "cone" collar also. The vet nurse/receptionist will be able to supply one without needing a vet there so you should be able to get one right away.
