Poor Yoda
So, I discovered my boy has a broken canine. Its broken the length of the tooth, almost a perfectly straight break. Appears to be a new issue - edges are sharp & he's very sensitive to touch (duh!) poor baby. Plus, I mess around & in his mouth all the time & just discovered it. So he's going in first thing in the morning to see Dr Dan. They're probably going to have to pull it. I've search everywhere to see what he could have broken it on. He's inside all day - only goes out to "do the duty" or with me. He's not much of a chewer - except on his rope - nothing unusual in or on the rope. Certainly don't want this to happen again - so if any of you have a clue what could cause this... please spill. Oh yea, he's 9 and until this, his teeth have been in excellent condition and the rest of his health is great. Thanks!

I think age could be a factor. Its actually not common for a small breed dog to lose tooth. I know a chihwawa(however you spell it
) that only has 1 of its 4 front teeth. But your dog doesnt look like a small breed. Medium-Large. Its possible it was chipped and then actually broke. It wont be a big deal. He can chew on the other side. Once it gets taken out he will be fine.

Poor boy.
Bailey has some cracks in her teeth that I keep an eye on, he probably had some too, like Dax said. Give him a hug for me. |

just got an update from Dr Dan. Their dental specialist is coming in this afternoon - so they're hanging onto Yoda & giving him loves for me till she looks him over.

Owie! Yes, they probably will pull it. Sidney had a tooth pulled a while back (she's just short of 9 years old) and it too was broken lengthwise. She is a hard chewer! Not on inappropriate things-thank goodness. I really don't know what she did it on but I'm not surprised because of the way she chews. I think it's harder on the owner and the pocket book than it is on the dog. Give him lots of hugs from Gretta and Sidney and me too!

Thanks everyone for the encouragement! Just heard from Dr Dan - The good news is that while its a large piece of tooth missing, apparently its only the enamel (so far) & since the pulp isn't involved - we can wait on the extraction. Also, Mr Yoda must be scammin for attention - because he's not showing any signs of discomfort at the vets. I guess I just bring out the 'mopeys' in him. He's eating & drinking just fine there. Bah! $$$ out the window... well, peace of mind helps I suppose.

Yes, peace of mind is worth the $$$. At least you know you did what was best and found that he doesn't need extration right now and he isn't in pain. You are a good mommy to follow up. Glad he's okay.
