Need help w/Cali's peeing!!
Remember my Cali who suddenly has had a huge lapse in potty training??
Well, I am beside myself! Background, she had a mild UTI about a month ago and was put on 10 days of Clavamox. Seemed like things cleared up for several days, but then the accidents started again. Just peeing, no pooping. I had another urinalysis done 8 days ago and all it showed was a trace of protein. Then a culture and sensitivity was done and nothing grew. I went back to housebreaking 101 where she was either crated or tethered to me. I tested her today and she peed a flood twice!! She is 2 1/2 and has been COMPLETELY housebroken!!!! Could it be anything else? Could that trace of protein in her urine mean something? Should I ask for another round of antibiotics??? I don't know what to do!! Is there something else I should have tested? I am already so stressed with Miko that I can't handle this too! |

I would call the vet and ask for another round of antibiotics...maybe even a bit stronger if necessary. This may say you money in a vet bill Deb.

No, she's not drinking any more than normal and they all go out about every two hours. It's just so bad, it seems like there's got to be something wrong.

Is a trace of protein enough to possibly cause this and warrant more meds? |

I'm going to get a bit graphic...so hang on. Does Cali have her hind area shaved? Does she squat low when she urinates? Squatting low to the ground in itself can give a dog a quick UTI.

The real question is can she have a UTI when all her urinalysis shows now is a trace of protein and specific gavity a bit on the high side? Last edited by Deb's Tiny Dogs; 09-24-2007 at 09:56 PM. |

Personally I would think so. Sometimes it takes a different or stronger type of medication to get rid of all of the UTI. It's just like us.

Here I am!
What worries me about another round of antibiotics, if they aren't needed is building immunity for when you do need it. And being as holistic as you are, this is certainly something you should be concerned about. I think you could try calling the vet and seeing what they recommend. Within reason, don't waste your money if you think it's not worth it. Just state your concerns, tell her what you have done as far as training. Beyond that, I'm as stumped as you are. The only other thing to consider is incontinence. It can rear its ugly head around 3 yrs of age in a spayed female. Ask your vet about this? Although, it seems that she is pretty aware of what she is doing? Tough one. Sorry. I don't know what else to do. Cranberry? |
