Look at this and see what you think

Symptoms:

depressed
coughing
slight fluid in lungs- not pnumonia
on heart medication
spine has growths on spine like arthritis or bone spurs
not eating
gave ibprophin shot but hasn't helped

Nothing visual wrong on xray. But when she walks she's in pain.

White cell count is up a little.

This is for Deogie.

I don't think those are all necessarily related. What does "gave Ibuprofen shot" mean? Dogs don't get ibuprofen?

She is in pain, where? Forelimb? Abdominally?

How old is Deogie? Could her age be catching up to her? If I remember, she's a senior dog. I would get her to the vet, see what the vet recommends and evaluate her quality of life.

The vet gave her a shot for pain. Mom said it was Ibprophen..

Deogie is about 12 or 13. I know the vet thinks she has a heart condition. She is in pain when she walks.

I was going to mention that. Ibuprofen (even a little bit) would fail the kidneys.

Well maybe thats the problem, I doubt it but is there any quality of life left in her if it hurts to walk. I think it may just be time to say good bye. As sad as it is it seems like ita a old age mystery and its time to let her go.

Could she have ment a pain med for dogs like ibuprofen???

It was some kind of pain med. Mom could be mistaken which.
The vet said she should feel better about an hour after he gave it but it didn't help. I haven't talked to her since early this morning and it's too late to call her now. But I'll call tomorrow and see if she's better.

I'd hate for her to loose another. She just lost Keisha and her cat Pugsley earlier this year.

Well most of the signs sound heart related.. the coughing, lethargy, fluid in the lungs (possibly), not eating.

If the heart has already been assessed, diagnosed, and being treated. Then I don't know what else to tell you?

As for the injection. It's really hard to figure out what that means. "Pain" injection could be a multitude of things. NSAID? Analgesic? Was it Rimadyl? And they are trying to take inflammation away? Or when you describe the dog as painful, maybe they gave an opiate?

It also seems that the dog is in pain because of the heart condition, which is effecting the lungs, which means she breathes. Which means she is having to force abdominally to breathe, and therefore in discomfort.

As others have said, it sounds like you're towards the end of this dogs life. It's now up to you when to recognize quality of life and when to end the suffering.

Unfortunately, cardiac issues at this age are not very easily treated, nor have better prognosis or progression. I wish you guys the best. It's know it's not an easy decision.

Well it's not really my decision. And mom said they haven't done anything but guess that she has a heart condition. They haven't done any tests other than an xray which only showed she might have some inflammation on her spine which is why they gave her the pain med. I told her to take her to another vet but she doesn't have the money to hand over instantly and this vet lets her make payments. But he doesn't seem to want to do more than xrays and bloodwork?

How do they normally diagnose heart disease?

Rimadyl & novox was given. Two different vets have said different things. One went over the symptoms and said she has a heart condition.

The other listened to the heart and didn't hear a problem. Even said her heart is strong. But said there's a little liquid in her lungs.

The xray showed a bone spur hence why the pain meds.

Deogie is stumbling still today. She went down the stairs and couldn't come back up them so she's weak in her back end.

Mom gets a check in a few days and I've encouraged her to take her to a vet that's one town over. Their better vets there. The vets in our town I do not trust at all.

The xray they did was cbc/W differential
