dalmation health question

have a question about my dalmation. He is having trouble going to the bathroom and not eating like he use to the last two days. He seems happy and plays as he always does. I haven't changed his food but we do give him cheese and turkey hot dogs as treats. Could that be causing the problem? What do you think. If he doesn't get better in the next day or so I plan to take him to the vet. I contacted the people I adopted him from but still am waiting for a answer.

Is he bloated? Does he seems to be in distress at all? There are a few things that could cause him to not go , one is constipation and that will not last, second is an obstruction like a sock he ate or ball or whatever that is causing a blockage , this is very serious and needs immediate attention, next is what they call twisted stomach or twisted gut , with this you will notice him retching and nothing coming up or just bile ( be he will be retching pretty much constantly ) also with this his stomach will distend ( bloat ) he will be salvating alot, looking at his side, biting at his side, any one or all of those are symptoms, this also requires immediate attention because the stomach can actually twist ( hence the name ) which will cause the blood supply to be cut off to part of his intestine and that will die and the longer it takes to see a vet the more serious and life threatening this is. This condition ( twisted gut or stomach) is more common in the larger breeds such as Dalmantion, Dobermans, Great Dane's etc. I would at the least call your vet and see what they Vet says.

Since he is eating and playing, it might just be constipation. Just like humans some dogs are sensitive to certain foods. How old is the dog, how long have you had him and of course.. Where are your pictures? Hee Hee.

hi

No he isn't bloated. He acts fine for the most part but is sleeping a little more then normal. He plays normal and chases my little heeler mix around and plays with his ball like he always has. I am really watch to make sure he never gets into anything he shouldn't. He did throw up once about three days ago but it was right after he ate, I just took it as he ate way too fast. He has been biting his butt a little then again he will chase/bite/growl at his tail when upset since he has OCD. I will for sure call the vet in the morning....

Thanks.

Dax,
I hope that is all it is. I have had him for about three months. He has had some tummy trouble in the past such as runny stool but that was when I first adopted him. They had him on some crappy food. He is around two years old the vet thinks. I will post some pics soon.

Some dogs are more sensitive to certain foods than others. How long have you been feeding him those treats (the cheese particularly). Maybe you've fed him more recently than he's used to, and it's disagreeing with him. If he doesn't get better in the next 2-3 days, talk to the vet.

would pumkin maybe help a little? I was reading about it on a website. I have some I could give him tonight to see if it helps him at all? Then of course I will call the vet in the morning.

Moo,
Only for about a week and a half for the treats ie cheese and hot dogs. He has been getting more then in the past. Dals can be very sensitive to certain foods.

Every dog is different of course, also depends on age of dog.

Pumpkin can help, as can a little bit of yoghourt or cottage cheese.

Give a dose of castor oil, about 5 ml. should do it, if he doesn't go or clear up within 24 hours seek a VET.
