Puppy straining when having a BM!

My 5 month old pup has had a couple of days of diaharrea when he first goes, but then he seems to be straining to try and go some more after the diaharrea. Any suggestions as to what is happening with him?
Thanks for your help everyone!

He may be irritated from the diarhea making him feel like he still needs to go. First thing I would do is to have him checked for worms as this may be causing the loose stools.

This sounds like a blockage to me. Have you changed his diet at all, and has he gotten into anything?

Over feeding can make diareah, and also make a straining to go. Give him half what you would feed for a meal to put it back on track.. However- if you are concerned go to the vet..

Skye did this for awhile I switched foods and gave him his worm pill and such and he is fine now...

I would give your vet a call and just ask if it could be due to diet. Maybe not enough fiber; too much fiber, etc. Straining like that for longer periods of time is not good. Miko went through a stage like that, too, that required a diet adjustment.

I agree just check with the vet to make sure b/c if it is worms they can catch it early and it shouldn't be so bad. Good luck keep us posted.
