Exclamation After shower, he's breathing like a pig?!??!

My girlfriend and took my miniature poodle a shower. After he was done, he started breathing like a pig. He keeps snorting and snorting. What can I do to fix this? Did he snort shampoo? The sound is scaring me!!

Sounds like reverse sneezing:

Reverse sneezing or inspiratory paroxysmal respiration, is caused by a spasm of the soft palate and laryngeal area. It is termed "reverse sneeze" because the dog is inhaling air rapidly and forcefully instead of expelling air, as with a normal sneeze.

During a reverse sneeze, which last a few seconds up to a minute or two, the dog is usually very still with the head and neck extended. The inhalation of air can be quite forceful, leading some owners to rush to the emergency clinic. Once the episode is over, the dog resumes normal behavior. Smaller breeds are more prone to reverse sneezing and may have several episodes a day. Reverse sneezing is caused by irritation to the throat, pharynx or laryngeal area. This can be from excitement, pulling on the leash, inhalant irritants (pollen, strong odors), respiratory infections, post nasal drip, or for some dogs, sudden changes in temperature -- i.e. leaving a warm house to very cold outdoor temperatures.

So it's nothing that serious? We should just let him rest, and in a couple hours it should go away?

Our vet closed early today, but he is barely doing it right now. He's laying below my computer chair taking a rest.

Depends, it can also be a sign of collapsed trachea.
If it persists see your vet. How is he now?

Small dogs are prone to this reverse sneezing. My Grandfather had toy poos all my life, I am sure he has them in Heaven now , I never knew one who did not do it.

He's doing well right now, just under my chair laying down. Haven't heard him snort in a while.
