Broken Nail

Clifford and Mekas nails are both in need of a trim. I have been a bad mom and not made time to take them.
I noticed Clifford was licking his foot alot. At a closer look I saw it seems he has broken a nail. Its not bleeding, but sore to touch.
Anything I can do? I will take him Monday for a trim, should I tell them not to trim that nail?

I wouldn't trim it unless is has a snag that could make it worse. I've been putting off doing Dax & Ariels for over a week. They seem to grow so much faster in the winter. I guess it's because snow doesn't wear like dirt & concrete.

Don't start the "bad mommy" talk or I'll have to post another one of those sickly sweet cats.

I'm too scared to even try to do it myself! I am too afraid of hurting my babies.

I would appreciate it when you do Dax and Ariels if you could run down here real quick and do Clifford and Meka! It would only take you a minute.

Rudy actually broke his nail not that long ago too, I was able to trim a little off and the quick receeded so I was able to trim more until I was able to get the rst of the broken nail off. You could try to put a good sticky fabric band aid on it to keep it from getting snagged but you will rpobably have to spray it with bitter apple so he does eat the band aid. Dogs have this wierd thing about eating band aids.. ewwwww!

I hate doing it.. I'd rather clean thier bums than cut their nails. (This could go in the confessions thread too LOL). I've hurt Dax once or twice in 10 years (nothing major). Talk about a bad mommy.

LOL!!! Actually I would rather do thier nails !!!! Rudy had a tick dug into his bum last summer, poor guy. Hubby , much to his grossing out , pulled it off. Rudy was like " HEY!!! What are you doing ? ". It was funny!

It seems pretty sore, he is even limping a bit.
Anything to help with the soreness?

I stay as far from Cliffords bum as possible, you never know when he will let one rip!

If it is really sore , try a epsom salt warm soak then put one of those fabric band aids on it . The quick should receed on it's own , try not to let them cut his nail tomorrow. Give it about a week then cut the nail , as for the other nails , get them trimmed so it doesn't happen to them too. Poor Clifford.
