Patent ductus arterious

We have a 3 month old female German Shepherd that was just diagnosed with PDA. The cardiologist who is a resident says she has a class 2 murmur and must have surgery.

I'm sorry to hear that as well. I have never had a dog with that disorder (disease??) and would like to know more about it if you have any info to share.... symptoms, diagnosis, treatments, etc...

This is a congenital birth defect where in the duct between the vein from the heart to the body and the artery from the heart to the lungs does not seal itself off and causes blood to flow in a abnormal way. Some of the folks we have talked to say it may heal itself and not to rush into this surgery.

Lou3,
Did your friend's dog have the surgery? We aren't sure what to do and we are hoping to hear from anyone with experience with this condition. Thanks.

no Rocky's was not serious enough to warrant surgery. He was treated medically and lived a relatively normal life without the surgery.
