discolored gums

I have a seven month old beagle, and I just noticed today that he has a loose tooth that has discoloration around the gum of that tooth. I'm pretty sure that this is an adult tooth. My first reaction was to call the vet, but my boyfriend thinks there may be some other way to solve this problem. Any suggestions?

I have a 7mth old beagle too!! Are you sure its an adult tooth..ie has the first set been fully replaced? When Chloe's baby teeth fell off -the first indication was discoloration at the root and only then did the tooth start shaking.

I would go to the vet... I never had discoloration at the root, and small breed baby teeth should be gone before 7 months. Look at it in proportion to the other teeth... How does it compare in size? Unless it's comparatively smaller, I'd call up the vet.

I, too, would have the vet check it out. Is the tooth itself discolored as well?

You can usually tell the difference between puppy teeth and adult teeth by the shape. Puppy teeth are extremely sharp, narrow and pointy. The canines look like needles. Adult teeth are a bit blunter and wider. If you suspect it's a puppy tooth, I'd leave it alone and let it fall out on its own. But, if you think it might be an adult tooth, have the vet check it out.

If its a baby tooth which seems like it is. It will become discolored untill it falls out. If its an adult tooth call your vet. Actually, either way call your vet just to be sure.
