I'm a Bit Worried

Maybe it's just me being paranoid but Max is very lethargic. We were warned he would probably sleep most of this evening as the effects of the anaesthetic can last 24 hours. He had his op around 11am.

Advice/encouragement from anyone else who's had their dog castrated?

I think I need my mind putting at ease.

Anethesia takes hours to leave to the body. Additionally the stress of surgery etc and relaxed at home. Typically I just let them forget the day and try again tomorrow..
What was done in surgury?

I know you are worried. This takes alot out of them, my Rottie slept all day. I am sure your baby will be better in the morning. Just check to make sure he does not feel feverish. Is he drinking water?

When hottie came home after his neuter he gave up life for over 24 hours.. I just handed him water and let him sleep. I dont feel well after surgery either.. In thoughts and prayers coming your way..

Since I posted, Max ate his dinner, although it was only a half-portion of what he normally gets (on vet's advice). He hasn't drank any water yet, but he isn't a big water drinker anyway. Usually has a few good slurps once or twice a day.

He's also got his bark back. My son's friend went out about half an hour ago, Max heard the door and barked.

He's still wobbly on his legs but is much more alert than he was earlier.

Hopefully, after a good night's sleep he should feel much better.

Borzoimom. Max got castrated today. Had to get it done as part of his adoption agreement.

Great news. Feeding lightly after anethesia is normal as the body is slowed down. Just let him rest... Sounds like its all normal behaviors, but as loving "parents" we worry anyway..

Be glad that his energy is down. It's probably wise to keep his activity down for a little while after the surgery (this is the norm for any surgery). And with the anesthetic keeping him a little lethargic still, it makes it easier on you to keep him from running zoomies around the place and tearing out some stitches or something. Basically, don't worry... it's perfectly normal.

Also, I know in the other thread you said you felt a little mean for having him nuetered, but it really is the best thing for him since he is a rescue dog. By doing this, you will not only be preventing accidental litters and future puppies ending up homeless, but you also decrease your dog's risk of cancer. So, it may seem not so nice, but he'll forget about it as soon as he's all healed up and it won't make any bit of difference to him. You did a great thing for your dog!

Thankyou Shanniesue2 (and everyone who's replied)

I know I've done the right thing, I just felt so sorry for him and responsible for making him feel bad.

The other week I saw a little dog who obviously had testicular cancer and probably won't live much longer, causing pain and suffering for him and heartache for his elderly owners. Had he been castrated, the poor little dog would have had a much longer lifespan.

I've been telling Max he's swapped his dangly bits for a microchip that says he has his very own family now

We all feel bad when we have our dogs spayed or neutered. It will only last a day or two. Heck, if I were a guy I would be walking a little funny too if someone removed my coconuts!
