Back from the vet!

Well we went to the vet this morning and $92.00 later skye is in good shape. He does have to go back in two weeks but hes good...

Apparently my old vet messed up his DHLPP shot (they didnt give the next one after the breeders in time therefor making it invalid) so he has to re-get that. also next time he is gettign tested for heartworms because they said since he didnt get it for a few months they have to test him before giving the interceptor to us. I guess so it doesnt hurt him...

Skye was a big kiss up to the vets, he rolled on the floor and made em scratch his tummy and such...****. He loved it, he gave em nasty looks while getting the shot but then after just sucked up again...lol

So over all prognosis is he is healthy, and just needs to go back for that other thing then hes good.

He weighed in at 40.20 pounds, which is more than I thought he would be.

Also a little rant, this guy walked in and he had a brittany spaniel, he let his dog just walk up sniff all over skye. I dont think skye would have attacked but he was not very happy about that other dog being all over him. What if my dog(or other persons dog) did bite him, then he'd say it was all my fault and I shouldnt let him out without a muzzle...yadda yadda yadda. Well how come you let your dog do that! You didnt know if my dog was a killer or a friendly dog...urgghh some people.

Skye just has to go get fixed now(after his next appointment) and then hes set for awhile...Yeah! I have needed to get that done but we are now just settling in in this house and such so now it will get done.

funny story, she asked what he was eating and I said chicken soup for the dog lovers soul...She then said oh be careful feeding him people food that much...I laughed I said no Its a dog food...lol It was pretty funny, the vet new what it was but not the assistant lady...

Oh and Kimberly I had Dr. Rhonda, I loved her and so did skye. She was very nice. Me and Kimberly go to the same vet now..lol

Thanks for listening to our first vet experience here...lol

That guy is an idiot for letting his dog snif a dog at a vet. He had no idea if your dog was infectious. I am glad all went well.

How vaccines work is that since they can not tell when a pup goes off mothers immune system and on their own and if the shot is given when still under the mothers immune system- the shot becomes worthless basically. They space it out knowing it takes 21 days for the shot to take effect. You could do a tither on the dog and that shows if immune or not. However- this is more expensive than the shot.
I follow Dr.Dodds regime of shots. Even my own vet doesnt give the distemper etc vaccines but every two years for an adult. My two autoimmune potential triggers I just get them tested to see if the vaccine or antibodies is still high enough. There have been several threads on this same practice.

she explained it that you get the first and then 14-21 days later your supposed to get the next one well skye didnt get it in that time making it useless...and I had to do it because if hes ever boarded or just going to shows i want to make sure its all up to date..

Well I wouldnt say useless.. They do back to back vaccines because as I said- they do not know when the immune system from mom wears off. Its entirely possible the one shot did it. But without running an immune test, it would be hard to prove- and this would cost more money than giving the shot. Please remember I have two autoimmune triggered dogs so I would do the test as to not stress the immune system. However- that is just my situation..

That's great! Dr Rhona is the best by far! (Dr Kilby can have an attitude and treat you like your 10 yrs old.) I'm not trying to scare you or anything but Dr R is so much more compassionate and really takes the time to explain things in English and doesn't act like you should already know!

I just had all my yearly heartworm tests and get intercepter. I hope they gave you some kind of pricing for different things. They are Science Diet people too. Yeah, I would feed mine that to I guess if I could afford it.

I'm so sorry I couldn't make it up there today but please let me know when he has to back! Did you already make your appointment for his booster? Hopefully after, you and your Mom can swing by here!

Glad to hear your baby is in good health and I hope you like your new vets!! LOL Kim

PS. One time I was in there with 2 kids sitting on the bench waiting and this man came in the out door with this huge lab with no leash on either! I was ******!! Then th dog poops out there in the yard by the swing and he didn't even clean it up!! I always clean mine up! If you noticed right outside the out door there is a small pail and a pooper scooper! That man was so arrogant and so was his dog! Like they didn't have to follow the rules like everybody else. Of course I said something and all I got back was "he always does that"
