In need of serious help please!!!

My 6 year old male lab has been back and forth to the vet for a nasty skin rash and all they seem to want to do is give me prednisone ad antibiotics. Nothing is helping and quite frankly I am tired of the repeat trips every other month only to drop another 100 bucks for the same treatment. Is there anyone out here who can offer some real advise...

It sounds like an allergy. He may have an allergy to a grain in your food. I know of many labs with allergies.

How long has this rash been going on?

Switching foods may help. Find a food wihtout grains in it.

Iams has alot of fillers that can cause allergic reactions. My dog was having flea allergies. One flea gets on a bites and here comes crazy hotspots. I have to use advantage only because it stops the fleas from biting. frontline kills once they bite.

I would advise switching to a better food, like canidae, innova, or solid gold and see if it doesnt help. Also use advantage if you arent already.

I so agree Sara! Iams also does very horrible animal testing.

Along with the other foods mentioned also try California Natural has less ingredients to be allergic to.

He's been on iams for over 3 years and the rash has been going on for about 6 months. I live in CT, is the food you mentioned sold nationwide? I have never seen a flea on him should I still get the advantix?

Sometimes dogs get a reaction awhile after eating it or sometimes food companys add something that the dog is allergic too.

It is sold nation wide but no big stores sell em you have to go to little chains...
