How big?

This doesn't seem like quite the right section, so mods feel free to move it if you think it should.

Our Great Pyrenees "puppy" is 5 1/2 months old and weighs 56 1/2 pounds. Can anybody tell me if this is big or small or average? This is the first time I personally have raised a puppy, let alone a large breed!

Wait for Dignity or Fairlight to weigh in.

Just to throw in my fun facts, my dog probably weighed about 6 lbs at that age. LOL

Lol! Let's trade dogs, 'kay? J/K!

I figured Dig or Fairlight would be the most likely to give me an answer.

It sounds about right to me...Pyrs arent supposed to weigh that much i dont think and the most growing (weight gain) gets done from 6 months- 1 year...so dont worry.

Worried? I'm worried she'll end up as big as a moose and will never grow out of the puppy stage and end up killing somebody. No, I'm kidding. I wasn't worried either way, she's definitely healthy, and definitely growing, I'm just curious.

General rule of thumb is that any giant breed should gain 10 pounds of a little more per month for 14 months.. 56 sounds right on target but I am not an expert on the breed.

Lets see if the pyrs get to be....100 for males and 85 for females about then she seems right on track and should be about normal size...

Mother Fairlight is here!!! Oso is abnormally large for a Great Pyr. We recently cut his weight back so he is around 120 pounds (maybe a little less). I have seen male great pyrs get as high as 150 pounds. Colette will probably slow the growing process in a few months. I'm going to say around 100-110 pounds for Colette when fully grown.
