Why Do People Do This?
I've just come back from the vets with my cat. He got himself into a fight and ended up with an abscess which he's being treated for.
On leaving the vet's nurse kindly opened the door for me - and we saw on the bench outside a beautiful fluffy cat in a cat basket - and no sign of the owner Poor thing was shaking We had a look to see if we could see anyone, but nothing. We knew the little cat had been abandoned because, if it had been someone nipping back to their car for something they'd forgotten, they would have put the cat inside first (like I've done many times). At least the cat was left where she'll be looked after and found a good home but I so wish that people would think when they take on that fluffy kitten or cute puppy that it is going to grow up, it will need feeding, grooming, playing with, exercise, vets bills - and love and affection. It makes me so sad when something like this happens. I wish people would realise that animals have feelings too

If I didn't have so many cats already I would have offered her (I think it is female) a home myself. The vets' nurses chorused together "No Mrs K". Must have had that look in my eye! They know what I'm like.
Still, one of my neighbours lost her cat to old age and illness a few months ago. I've got to go back to the vets tomorrow to get Max's stitches out, so if they've still got the cat I'll have a word with her and see if she would like to give the cat a home. I know the cat would get an excellent home with her. |

They don't know any better than to reach out for help? I don't know
At least she wasn't left in the woods or some terrible place. |

Just came back from our vets (Max got his stitches out) and learned more about the abandoned cat.
Apparently last night, a woman phoned our vets in a very distressed state and pleaded with our vets to find the cat a good home (which our vets will). It would seem that the woman and her family are being evicted from their home this week. I have a feeling I know which family this is, although I do not know them personally. When I was driving back from the vets last night, about 3/4 of a mile down the road I saw a man who lives in our estate walking down the road. In the seven years I've lived here, I've never seen this man anywhere except near the pub or the local shops. I work in town and have never seen him there, so to be that far from the estate would be unusual (about 3 miles). I know this man doesn't drive so he would have had to have walked all the way to the vets, carrying the cat in her basket. Without meaning to sound unkind or derogatory, the best way to describe this family would be similar to what you call Hillbillies. I don't know what the family have done to be evicted but usually it's for one of these reasons: Anti-social behaviour Drug Dealing Using the house for immoral purposes Non-payment of rent (doubtful as they would be on full housing benefit - i.e. the state would pay their rent for them) According to our vet's nurse, the woman was breaking her heart on the phone and had been trying to find the cat a new home herself but to no avail. They abandoned the cat at our vets' out of desperation. At least they left the cat where she would be taken care of and found a new home. |
